Release + Insider Preview Home Build 16179 (VMWare)

Like others have mentioned in this thread already, I too wanted to give UUP a try and I was patient. It's been 2 hours and the process is still on "Initializing Updates." I am giving up and going back to ESD. I will keep trying the UUP method, but if it doesn't work within 1 hour, I will be resorting back to ESD until the UUP process has become more streamlined.

As do I - it makes for super simplified downlaods when they get it working right, as the core will already be around - only download the files that are actually updated.

I've been on Initializing Updates for over an hour now.

Looking at Task Manager / Performance, CPU is pegged at 100% while Ethernet is at 0%.
I closed the WU screen from Settings out and went about my normal business - and just opened it back up and instead of little dots I'm at 99% downloaded.

Ummm - you do realize that this is an Insider Preview build, right? As in *this* is how they are getting the bugs fixed....

I was considering the same, but since I am at 99% downloaded now I think I'll stick with UUP.

They do not get the bugs fixed by doing nothing to fix it.

Finally installed, after reboot(s) ended up here:

This is an Oracle VM, Win 10 Pro X64. Click Restart, round it went and right back to the same screen. I'll try a rollback to the previous version (15019), see what happens.

there won't be any bugs to fix if we can't get our hands on the next build, besides they're already aware of the issue and so far they haven't provided a fix nor workaround, some insiders are not aware that registry can be edited to disabled the UUP and get back to ESD method which, i imagine, will be frustrating and they might end up leaving that build and maybe turning off their insider's preview, as i once did before knowing about disabling UUP.

I've just added this warning to UUP to ISO tutorial. Let's see what the next build or two brings to use, if the method died only after a few new builds or not:

At the moment I strongly recommend that you edit registry to get ESD upgrade instead of UUP. Remember to enable ESD again in registry after a successful upgrade, it will be reset to UUP.

In this post you can find instructions on how to edit registry to switch to ESD upgrade, and how to discard already downloaded UUP upgrade and re-download it as ESD upgrade instead.

    Windows 10 and windows insider

I noticed that my advanced download options had been changed yo accept downloads from anywhere; I turned this option off and will see if that makes a difference.
