    Not possible.

Second scenario: a local account user ABCDE exists, trying to create a new Microsoft account user ABCDE@AnEmail.com. No issues in creating new Microsoft account user but because profile name ABCDE already exists, the new Microsoft account gets profile name ABCDE_xxxxxxx where xxxxxxx is a seemingly random 7 character string which apparently nothing to do with computer name (it would have been more logical if this new profile name had been ABCDE_PC-Name!):

Works, with a strange profile name.

Conclusion: create the local account first, then you can create a Microsoft account with same name although the profile gets a weird name. Other way around it does not (logically!) work, a local account with same profile name than an existing user account regardless if existing user is local or Microsoft account can't be done.

Tested on a Hyper-V VM with Windows 10 build 15014 I just set up for this.

I had this happen a couple of times in previous updates where something went wrong and it created a new profile for my Microsoft account with the extra characters because another profile already existed for that same Microsoft account.

Good to know that it works with local + Microsoft accounts as well.

Yes, you should as long as that weird profile name David_xxxxxxx does not disturb you.

When creating a new user account as a Microsoft account, the user profile name will be the FIRSTNAME part of email address (FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME@EMAIL_PROVIDER.com) if the FIRSTNAME is exactly 5 characters long.

If FIRSTNAME is shorter than 5 characters, the user profile name will be a 5 character abbreviation of full FIRSTNAME (1 to 4 characters) plus first characters from LASTNAME to make it full 5 characters. For instance jane.doe@anyemail.com would get user profile named as JaneD, ben.smith@anotheremail.com as BenSm, and so on.

If the Microsoft account email only has one part before the @ sign, a 5 character abbreviation will be used for user profile name if it is*6 characters or longer, as it is if it is 5 characters or shorter.

The simple "fix" is never to create a new user using Microsoft account. Always make it as local account, then as soon as signed in first time switch to Microsoft account. Local account's user profile name will always be exactly as the chosen username and it will not change when switched to a Microsoft account.

i have the exact problem you just gave example for, i tried contacting support but had no response and the only way for me to have my username made correctly is that i make a local account everytime i clean install, which kinda makes me miss a couple steps during the setup process, my email starts with Gasser and if i sign in during setup steps username turns up to be gasse, first 5 letters and not even starting with a capital letter, i assume there is no way to get windows to make my profile name right signing with microsoft account..?

The 5 character user profile abbreviation is written in Windows with a lower or upper case letter depending on how you have typed it when creating your email account. When creating a new Microsoft email address (outlook.com, hotmail.com) john.doe@AnEmailService.com, profile name would be in Windows johnd with lower case initials j & d.

Creating the same email as John.Doe@AnEmailService.com, the profile would be named as JohnD.

FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME part of Microsoft email addresses is not case sensitive, both john.doe and John.Doe can be used when creating a new email address. People can send you mail using*John.Doe@ john.doe@.

Please notice that not all email services let you use upper case letters in email addresses. The above applies to Microsoft email addresses, I do not guarantee it applying to any other service.

Anyway, the first letter in profile name being a lower case letter is not a big deal, you can change it. Windows folder names are not case sensitive, in your case simply rename your profile folder from gasse to Gasse. Do not rename it to anything else, just change the first letter to upper case!

To rename your user profile folder changing the first letter to upper case, you have to*sign out from that account and sign in using another admin account; the option to rename user profile folder is not available for the account you are currently signed in.

It is 5 characters. I cannot see Microsoft changing this. The fix is to always create your user account asa local account with your preferred profile name, then switch to Microsoft account.

    Yes. Sending mail to anyone's outlook.com, live.com, hotmail.com, msn.com I can type receiver's address as John.Doe@domain.com or john.doe@domain.com.

I have several email addresses with capital initials. If you want to test / do not believe it, I can PM you one of those for you to send me email. You know it works when I reply

Notice that also URLs can in most cases be typed with capital letters. You can enter TenForums.com, TENFORUMS.com or TENForums.com in a browser's address bar, all of them would take you to TenForums.com.

I've only had a few very minor problems that have been worked out so I don't mind waiting for the next release.
