Windows 10 Build 10159 is installed on this desktop, although several things were broken in the process. So far all the broken apps are either Microsoft (Office 365) or Microsoft supplied apps.
I don't need to repeat how I got things to work, but as a bonus, once my download speeds improved, Lappy 15.6 finished her installation of Windows 10 Build 10158. Sure wish it had been 10159!
Lappy 17 is still sitting at 0% downloaded. I think that's my fault, though . . . I pressed Stop rather than Restart.
Folks, when restarting wauserv, whatever you do, do not press Stop! I did that and Lappy 17 Task Manager Services wauserv is now perpetually at "stopping". When I try to start it, I'm told another occasion is already running. If you mess with wauserv at all, right click on it and then left click on RESTART. Do it again if need be, but do not click on Stop!
On the off chance that clicking Stop isn't all that dangerous, and on the off chance that my lappy 17 is the only one that will adversely react to pressing Stop . . . Pressing Restart does exactly the same thing and is much safer. My opinion only, but I have a maching that seemingly will no longer update.
I have already made ISOs of 10158 and 10159 with the old tool. Haven't tried them yet. Any idea of what the problem is?
The issue was with the RSA keys needed to decrypt the ESD. The old keys worked in most cases but not always. The new tool has additional RSA keys to work with the latest ESD files.
I did as well. And, curiously, the first one I tried to make on 10158 failed - evidently a corrupted ESD file? But when I tried it the second time, with a second copy of the same file, same file size, it worked. I wonder if this was the problem? Although it doesn't seem like that would be possible. The only thing I can say is, the first copy I pulled out of the Sources folder immediately as it appeared. The second copy I pulled out of the Sources folder after the first copy was finished copying to the desktop. Both file sizes were exactly the same.
I did put the ISO of 10158 in and it booted to install (but I cancelled it).
Okay Kari - help me understand......if, we need an additional RSA key for the newer builds, why can't the newer key be added to the original tool, so that the tool will use the one it needs, and we will only have one tool to download? Please keep in mind I am not a coder, so your answer has to be "for dummies like me". Thanks!
