Or is it restricted only one per IP address?
No. I have half a dozen real machines and 10+ virtual machines, all Windows 10, all using the same external (public) IP.

    Hi there

I think there's some confusion here.

I think you have to register initially with an Ms account - however that said I am using the PC with purely a LOCAL account.

I think the confusion arises because of the way Windows was installed a few builds ago -- If you disconnected from the Internet the setup would continue using a LOCAL accounrt.

All my upgrades since then have upgraded using the LOCAL account.

There is of course an Ms account that I registered with.

    Cheers

Yes. Of course, to get the first build you needed to have an MS account but that was an ISO download; you did not have to install it on the same machine you used for the download.

MS only later "freed" the download, now you can download the latest ISO they have published (10130) without signing in.

After royally screwing up whole system and reloading 8.1 and 10 on other disk, I'm just making new BOOT USB for 10130, we'll see if that would update.

Sorry but very clearly the answer is Yes, you can. It seems the build 10158 changes this but from the beginning to this build it has been and still is totally possible, you have had no obligation to use an MS account.

Question was HAS it been possible earlier
Sorry, I must be misunderstanding the OP - I read "I just upgraded from 10130" and assumed the question refers to this new build.

    This is the OP, right?

Hi, I just upgraded from 10130 and I had my machine at local account and just entered my hotmail address and was on the insider build. After the upgrade to 10158 today I was on my local account but Windows asked me to fix issues with the insider program so I just entered my email and password and thought OK, everything should be OK.

After I did this, it changed my name and display pic to my hotmail account, I wasn't local anymore. So I switched back to local account it signed me out and back in and now it says again I have to FIX ISSUES with the insider program. How did you get it to stay on the insider program whilst on a local account??

Previous version was ok, now I cannot for some reason when I go to my local account.

Upgraded from 10130 to 10158. Windows required the hotmail (MSA) sign-in for the Insiders program. So I am misunderstanding the question? I thought the issue was for a local account+Insider program in 10158, not previous builds?

Maybe it's too late and I should go to bed......

No, I am wrong and misunderstood the question. It was possible until now but it looks as if build 10158 will not allow users to get build upgrades without an MS account.

However, I was and am partially right: that MS account does not have to be an Insider account. Being an Insider is not obligatory.

I consider MS account a bonus, specially with at least two windows going at same time. Syncing between accounts and between new builds although not perfect helps a lot.

    First impressions:

Dat MS Edge Dark Theme! so sexy! Also it looks nicer, is faster, but still get the bug where I can't interact with the "quick reply" area on forums like tenforums
