Windows 7 Support ends in three years

I have a USB floppy drive but can't say I've actually used it much. A couple times when I first bought it many years ago. I have a box of brand new never used floppies around somewhere too. Nostalgia I guess, lol. I have a USB Lightscrib DVD burner too. I don't bother putting optical drives in my towers. I do all my installs from thumb drives these days. I only use it for installing a few games that are on disk. I don't watch movies etc on my PC so I don't bother installing a dedicated optical drive.
lol, I can remember having a 2 floppy drives installed, and a reader and burner optical drive installed. And if you were lucky 2 hard drives.
Those 19 inch CRT monitors were fun to move around too.
I too still have floppys and I just plug in the floppy drive via usb when I want them and Windows 10 does recognise them and I can then do what I want with them

I do understand MS's motivation in this -- I only hope they offer an "upgrade" price (i.e., something along the line of what they did for Win8) for when Win7 gets "retired" so it won't cost a lot for folks to THEN upgrade to Win10.

update to Windows 10 during the free offer,
sign in with a Microsoft account to Tie the windows 10 Key to the Account
so the activation is transferable to new hardware in future,
then
Roll back to their favoured OS untill they are ready to move on
It's too late to do this now but the advice was given many times before the end of the offer, hopefully people listened
There will I believe be further incentives to upgrade to Windows 10 from older OSs as end of support nears but I doubt it will be as good an offer as the initial one

The 'GWX' app is gone but it's reported that some of the other free upgrade routes do still work.

Yep, can still get the free Win10, did 3 computers just a week ago, 2 Desktops and 1 Notebook. All 3 had Vista but was able to upgrade to Win7 then get Win10. Couldn't do a Dell Latitude Notebook, no drivers for the video adapter.

I think there will be a fair few folks looking to upgrade from Vista in the next 3 months or so and probably soon after it goes out of support in April.
Although Vista probably only has a few percent of Windows installations these days, it's still a few percent of a very big number.

I don't see them putting another offer on the books for when support finally ends. Why should they? It's not like there wasn't lots of time to take them up on the free upgrade offer. Which, as near as I can tell, is still on the go, unofficially. Upgrade, get your Digital license, Rollback. Then you can upgrade again, or clean install when the time comes.

Well... my new laptop came with Windows 10 so... nothing to worry about.
My old one came with Windows 7, I tested Windows 10 on it, and while the OS works fairly good, hardware acceleration for videos is just crimpled... the poor thing becomes an oven when you try to play multimedia on it... I still have that license just in case I really need it, but since hardware acceleration is something I need with almost everything, that PC is doomed to stay tied to Windows 7 to ratain full funcionality. Not that is a bad thing. I will always have love for Windows 7
