Hi,

Access Denied
Cheers,
I read somewhere that if you wait couple of minutes before entering your password it doesn't appear.
I will have to try that but it doesn't solve the cause of the problem.
This is my first real problem with Win10 since its release, or at least a problem that won't go away.
It seems that going back to a previous Restore Point isn't always possible because I've seen some Updates reset System Restore.
Microsoft Helpless is no good because they never have any good answers.
Unfortunately Microsoft seems to think switching system restore off by default is a good idea. It's a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted but going forward it's worth ensuring its on and take restore points every few days. I think the new major updates such as the anniversary update and probably the upcoming creators update will wipe out system restore again necessitating it being switched on by the user again.
maybe fdegrove's suggestion is worth a try as waiting a couple mins before logging in is not ideal and kind of defeats the object of your having an SSD which would usually allow users to enjoy a very fast boot
I didn't quite understand his suggestion. Did he mean to re-install the update? I didn't know you could install an update twice.
Hi,
The suggestion is to re-install Windows Defender.
Cheers,
Exactly how do you propose doing that?
Windows 10 - Windows DefenderWindows Defender is built-in to Windows 10. There’s nothing to buy and nothing to install.
There are two parts of Windows Defender that try to start up. One is the service that provides the protection, the other is the graphical user interface (GUI) that lets you interact with Defender and puts the Shield in the taskbar notification area. If Scottyboy99 is correct that...
...then it's the GUI trying to start at log in that's giving the error message - the service starts at boot, not log in. Do you see the white shield on the taskbar near to the time/date? If not, try starting the Defender GUI by going to Settings > Update & security > Windows Defender and clicking 'Open Windows Defender'. Does this generate the same error message?
You could try turning off real-time protection then restarting. Defender will re-enable itself on reboot, resetting its start up settings to defaults and hopefully fixing what's wrong.
I can confirm the idea that waiting a few minutes before entering my password prevents the display of the Dialog Box. I waited 10 minutes (had to do something else after rebooting) and logged in. No Error.
The Windows Defender Shield is in the System Tray.
I will try to force the error by rebooting and logging in immediately and then try your suggestion.
I have another error in my Event Viewer unrelated to this one I will open another thread for.
