Thank you for this! All sorted, an odd quirk but yep I run a laptop with a 24" Monitor, so that explains it. Saved me even more stress.
Well I am glad that helped :) So now I can submit a more conclusive feedback to this issue seeing am not alone. I hoped this is fixed soon as I use dual monitors a lot for a variety of things.
Again glad it helped you :)

My desktop is almost full of shortcuts created with internet explorer, always has been

But none of them work either in explorer or Firefox by clicking on them; I have to drag them to the address bar to get them to work

Pain in the neck and it’s been like this for the past four or five new builds
If you've had this problem for a few Builds, there has to be something pretty wrong with Windows 10.

Have you tried a Reset? Go to Settings>Recovery and follow the Reset link. If that doesn't work, you may want to consider a clean install. And yeah, I can see you shuddering now at the thought of redoing all those icons.

If you should consider a clean install, I'd assume a lot of homework will be needed, not the least of which is to write down all your installed apps and then gather the CDs/DVDs, Product Keys, any special settings, etc., before proceeding. Just as an FYI, I keep all this information (except the physical media) on an external hard drive.

Nope, frightened the bejaysus out of me. Might be something to do with Cortana but doubt it as Cortana is not available here in Ireland and it was a male voice.

It's all part of the newer OOBE for Windows Setup. :)

    Accessibility Improvements

A more inclusive experience out of the box: The Windows Out-Of-Box-Experience (OOBE) Team has been working to reimagine how people set up their PCs for the first time. Our goal is to make this simpler and more accessible so every person powering on their new PC can independently set it up. While we have made numerous improvements in past releases to achieve this goal, we now want to take it to the next level where people can listen and respond to Cortana verbally (when asked questions*) to further simplify and make the setup process more accessible to even more people.

    Wow, now that's weird!

I'm going to try going back to 14986. See what happens because Build 15002 isn't working. First, I need to print the book Microsoft published for this Build. :)

I’ve tried everything even a fresh install of the one before last build

I’ve read on Google other people having the same issues but the shortcuts do work if they have Edge as the default browser

I think it MS way of saying stick with Edge and don’t bother with the other browsers

Well seems I have a nightmare here. Got the install done and after a long install it finally shows my desktop. But seems my task bar is frozen. Mouse over and just get spinning icon. Reboots do nothing. Cannot click on it anywhere to get action center, cortana, etc.

And I really am mad at myself for not using the reg hack to get the esd as now am totally stuck with no task bar so no access to most anything. If by chance anyone can help with an esd for this so I can try a repair in place I would be eternally grateful as this is very maddening

    Thanks
This sounds like the same problem I had and I managed to track down what was causing it for me, an HDMI cable from my laptop to a large screen TV. When I shut down the system, disconnected that HDMI cable, Windows booted up properly and the Taskbar was available. The next thing I did was go back to the previous build 14986 and everything is working again.

I heard that it might be caused by my Nvidia driver so I installed it again and then did a clean install of the Nvidia driver. This time my laptop screen remained black. I forced a shutdown (power button for 4+ seconds) and then the laptop screen came back. However when I connected the HDMI cable to the TV I got the same result, stuck with no Taskbar and a spinning icon. I again went back to 14986.

Windows now wants me to re-start so that it can install 15002 again. I want to skip this 15002 and go straight to the next preview.
