Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15002 for PC Insider
-
Dual booting has always been a PITA. I manually select boot drive from start up instead of normal dual boot and I never had issues. Also, my main W10 OS is on GPT drive and the Insider on MBR which seems to help in preventing boot up issues.
I still don't understand what happen. I couldn't boot unless I hit the F11 key to access the boot option menu. The bios kept switching my DVD drive as the boot drive. EasyBCD kept adding boot options and deleting the ones I had entered. What I finally did was to boot into my Insider build and using Macrium to restore the OEM HDD. Then I deleted all the entries in EasyBCD. Then I shut down the computer and disconnected the Insider SSD. Once I was sure that the computer was booting OK from the HDD I reconnected the SSD and booted to the HDD and re-entered the SSD. So far I have done a few reboots and it working.

Good to hear.
I rarely use EasyBCD. I usually just use Macrium to fix boot problems.

I think the next build I'm going to unplug the HDD until the build gets installed.

This is weird. I upgraded my laptop to 15002 and I have my sleep option, but on my desktop, when I did a clean install, I only see Shutdown and restart options. I have tried the registry edit and the power options workarounds, but to no avail. Am I stuck with a desktop that can only shutdown and not go to sleep? Any help would be appreciated.

I remember I mentioned that to everybody long long time ago when I was still dual booting. I even installed a hard drive power switch on my machine to power off the other hard drive before updating.
EDIT:
@Winuser
Here I found my old post about pulling out a hard drive and when I installed HDD power switches.

Have you adjusted the power settings on the desktop yet?

I have never been affected by connecting 2 drives of dual boot on every updating!

Try removing one or the other if it will boot by itself.

That can become an issue when you don't disconnect other drive(s) while installing system. It's specially acute if other drive(s) already have windows on them. Updating have never been a problem for me when systems are installed separately.
