Yes, Charlie, that's what I would do, and if you go into Settings>Update and Security>Activation, I'm told that Windows is activated. As far as I know, as long as I'm a Windows Insider, this will remain the status quo.

When I upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, this will be a completely separate installation of Windows 10 and will have nothing to do with the Windows Insider Program, since it's never been associated with same.

My reasoning is for comparison between regular Windows 10 and Windows 10 for Windows Insiders.

In general, Microsoft has always said that you can't use the same license for two different current installations. You would have to delete Windows 10 to install your older OS, or upgrade (or delete) your older OS to Windows 10. If you use two different licenses, then it's not an issue.

However, this is the legal answer. The technical answer is that nothing physically prevents you from doing it.
You can't have your legitimately upgraded Windows 10 and the Insider Windows 10 on the same machine? What purpose does that serve for MS? I can see not having your, say, Windows 7 on one partition, and the Windows 10 you got as the free upgrade from 7 on another. But this doesn't seem to serve MS's stated hope that as many folks will stay on Insiders going forward.

Windows 8.1 upgraded to Windows 10 will consume the Windows 8.1 license. This is the commercial product with your Win8.1 license upgraded to a Win10 license.

The Technical Preview releases have their own licensing agreements and activation keys (most of the time they are automatically activated).

They are separate and distinct. There is no reason that you cannot run both on the same machine in a multi-boot environment. You're doing this already with an Win8.1 license and the TP key/license.

    That's my read ...
And mine too, Bill. You've explained it better than I did. :)

Mystere said, "If you use two different licenses, then it's not an issue." And that will be exactly what I'll be doing. My Windows 8.1 upgraded to Windows 10 will be one license. My Technical Preview of Windows 10 will be my second license.

I might add, too, that Windows 10 "upgrade" will always be several builds behind Windows 10 Technical Preview.

Why not? they will each have a different product code and their own license. You'll see updates and new features on the preview long before they get released to the Final full version, so why not. You would also be able to give feedback as to yes or no, like or don't like. It could influence future planed changes.

Yes, that's my point. But it was stated otherwise in the post I was replying to.

I thought the feedback app would be open to everyone not just to insiders. Another words windows 10 consumers will be able to post feedback just like insiders do.

No, you can do that. Windows 10 Insider is a different license from Windows 10 non-insider. I was referring to the other situation you say you understand.
