OK I will explain it. If you are currently using a licensed version of Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, you will receive a FREE update or upgrade to Windows 10 as long as you do it within One year of July 29, 2015. Those that fail to do that will have to buy it. The last price I saw was $199.00 US for Windows 10 Pro.

great so it's "stay with us or lolformat to Windows 7, Windows Update for half a day, get upgrade, upgrade, format again for a clean Win10 install.

    Uggh.
Honestly, if you don't enjoy re-installing software, then running beta software is probably not your best option.

I think what was meant, Boozad, is that Windows 10 will be free for those who choose to stay in the Insider Program. And, in a sense, that's true, since we will be updated to the final release while we continue to get new builds to test.

Edit: I have since seen a reply to you and I got this one wrong. (See how easily someone's statements can be misinterpreted, folks!)

However, although I misinterpreted the statement, what I said above remains true.

I know all that, it has nothing to do with the question I asked though.

    Thanks for info

Only reason I dropped out was the 12+ hour to download each build, this should be resolved later in the year when my BB gets better, so thinking of joining back up then

*I am still in the insider program, just not downloaded last couple of builds, so mine have expired
And, I think that if you haven't actually informed Microsoft that you've dropped out, you haven't. :) I think the option to drop out of the program will come after July 29 and if you've installed the final bits of Windows 10.

    OK, here's my case:

My main daily driver is Windows 7. I have 'reserved' a copy of Windows 10, but I have no intention of upgrading my Windows 7 installation. Will I be able to clean install my copy of Windows 10 on another partition on the same HD in the same machine, and dual-boot 7 and 10?

I am currently dual-booting 7 and 10 preview. Let's say I stay in the Insiders program after RTM, for at least a little while. Let's say I quit Insiders by and by - will I be able to install my Windows 10 that I got through reserving it on my Windows 7 system on the partition currently containing the Preview?

No. Not without using an unused Windows 10, 8.1, 8 or 7 product key.

" “I want to continue as a Windows Insider!” If you want to continue as a Windows Insider past 7/29 there is nothing you need to do. You’re already opted in and receiving builds in the Fast or Slow ring depending upon your selection. This is prerelease software and is activated with a prerelease key. Each individual build will expire after a time, but you’ll continue to receive new builds so by the time an older prerelease build expires you’ll have received a new one. Since we’re continuing the Windows Insider Program you’ll be able to continue receiving builds and those builds will continue to be activated under the terms of the Windows Insider Program. We provide ISOs for these builds for recovery from any significant problems, but they are still pre-release software. As part of the program we’ll upgrade Insiders to what is for all intents and purposes the same build as what other customers will get on 7/29, but that will be just another build for Insiders, and those who stay in the program will simply get the next build after as well.

“I want to opt out of the Windows Insider Program on 7/29.” If you decide to opt-out of the program and upgrade to the 7/29 build you will be subject to exactly the same terms and conditions that govern the offer* that was extended to all Genuine Windows 7 and 8.1 customers. This is not a path to attain a license for Windows XP or Windows Vista systems. If your system upgraded from a Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license it will remain activated, but if not, you will be required to roll back to your previous OS version or acquire a new Windows 10 license. If you do not roll back or acquire a new license the build will eventually expire."

Technically, you can but legally most likely not. See corrected post later in this thread.
