If your system upgraded from a Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license it will remain activated, but if not, you will be required to roll back to your previous OS version or acquire a new Windows 10 license.

Does that mean, that we will NOT be able to do a clean install of our free Windows 10? As I read it, there has to be a Windows 7/8.1 installation (activated, of course), and then do the upgrade to windows 10.
I want windows 10 _clean installed_ as upgrades never are as clean as a "clean install" (hence the name, I guess)
I am now totally confused. Gabe Aul should go work for Apple.
I think you need to upgrade from 7 or 8.x to 10, let the machine activate, and then you can clean install.
From the Windows 10 FAQ:
Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading?
Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need to purchase Windows 10 or go back to your prior version of Windows and upgrade again.
You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

So if I want to continue Windows Insider, no need to do anything as long as Microsoft continues to Insider program.
And if I want the "final" version, I stop using Insider. and I use my Windows 7 retail lisence to activate final veriosn. Right ?
