It’s (Past) Time to Close That Yahoo Account

I can't say this emphatically enough, get away & stay away from Yahoo.
It is worth any amount of time to inform any and all People and firms that you are switching to another account(yes I know it will take a lot of time, but the security is worth it).

These are not the first two times that Yahoo accounts have been stolen or cracked.

There sites are pretty to the eye, but also very prone to being hijacked, specially because they trust there Ads partners.

Get away, quick, now.... I have told many people this for years now, but do they listen?
I'm beginning to feel like Cassandra of Troy:

I had a general Yahoo account many years ago, but never an email account. I wouldn't have any idea how to access it now even if it's still open since my login wasn't an email address. Nothing other than my name that was current when I set that account up still is, so I'm thinking I don't have anything to worry about.

Welcome to the real world...you above post is only the tip of the iceberg....and in my opinion a scare story compared to what real hackers are after.....Allow me to name just a few that have lost billions.....These are where the rich pickings are....not by phishing a link to an unwary individual in an e-mail.

Yeah, as long as I'm just cleaning up anything related to my old Yahoo account, I just changed password and stuff. The thing is that, from Yahoo's website, I can't se any e-mail I received before december 6th. I'll try to contact them to ask what the hell is going on.

We can terminate our own accounts, but there is nothing we can do about moving the Yahoo-based discussion groups. We can stop using them, but we can't move them to something else (like Google, I guess) unless we are the administrators.

I am really stuck with*Yahoo as I get my satellite TV, phone and broadband from SKY.
I had changed the Yahoo password in 2014, and then increased it to 18 characters when the s--t hit the fan. The password is longer now by a few extra characters.
*If SKY keep Yahoo, there is very little I can do about it.

I've had a Yahoo account as my main personal account for maybe the past 10 years. Even without them informing me of security breaches, I could tell my e-mail was hacked or stolen when every once in a while I or someone else received a spam e-mail using my name looking something like the below. When I checked yahoo help for answers, their only suggestion would be for me to change my password and use a better virus protection on my computer, only making it look like security on MY end was compromised, not theirs. Well I always knew better.
And I'm sure Yahoo hasn't been the only one. The actual example below was from a friend who's been a long time Gmail user, and the long list of e-mail addresses under To: clearly identified as from HIS address book. So in the last years I've seen a similar amount of these e-mails from Gmail users as I've seen from Yahoo ones. It doesn't take another news story on Yahoo to realize many of these providers aren't invulnerable against occasional hacks. I'm not sweating it with my Yahoo account and keep following my basic rules:

1. change your e-mail password frequently, like once a month, and keep it complex (just like you're required with many work related accounts)

2. use a good AV/malware/spyware client on your end (should go without saying)

3. use a local e-mail client to frequently save your important e-mails offline (or on personal cloud if needed online)

4. at the same time, delete those along with all the other crap from e-mail server
