That what we don't know yet. Right now I would say no basing this on Gabe tweets. The question that remains after the insider build is upgraded to RTM and activated, then you decided to leave the program will you need to have some proof of an older 7 or 8 system on a clean install.
Based on what we've read so far, Windows 10 will be updated to the final bits (RTM). We will be given an option to stay in the Insider Program or drop out of it.

What we don't know at this point is, "If we drop out of the Insider Program, will we be allowed to keep our copy of the Windows Insiders 10 RTM."

What we do know is that is that those who choose to stay in the Insider Program will continue to get Preview bits to test before they're released as updates to Windows 10 regular users.

Here's what it says about the Insider Program:

Stay with us as a Windows Insider
As we’ve announced before, the Windows Insider Program will continue even after we release Windows 10 on July 29th. Windows Insiders will continue to receive future flights as we begin to work on the next release immediately after Windows 10 ships. You’ll get to see the latest Windows fixes, features, and updates and give us feedback. So stay with us! Of course, we’ll provide you an option to leave the program and stay on the final build if you choose: but we hope that we’ll continue to provide you great reasons to remain a Windows Insider.
Note the sentence in red. Methinks when they revised the blog overnight, they missed that one! We'll see.

    Hi there

If people want to continue testing new builds etc then that's fine. Didn't we have TECHNET (now gone) and MSDN for that type of activity as well as giving people options to trial out Software before purchasing it for use either at home or in their workplaces.

For me I'm quite happy to just load the RTM if it's fit for purpose when it appears and let others do the testing.

As I'm edging towards retirement (and The Golf Course !!) I'm not so desired to keep testing as I was when I was a bit younger. Yes a NEW OS (say Windows 11 / Windows 12 / Windows -Z or whatever) would interest me but once W10 is finally out I'm happy to apply updates and let others dig around with it.

That's why I really hope Ms can get W10 RTM RIGHT - and am a bit surprised that we haven't had an "Official" release for a while now --there's still bits of builds 10130 - and 10147 that need to be FIXED.

    Cheers

Just read this article from Ed Bott. He has a good point or two. Anyone agree with him? "Windows 10 is free"
reminds me of a line from 1969 "It's a free concert now"

I read that article earlier this morning. Ed has some valid points I agree with, but I'm not holding my breath.

What I do know, Charlie, is that Ed Bott is very good at what he does, and doesn't usually go off on a limb that I'm aware of. I have always believed Ed Bott over two or three others who seem popular, but get it wrong about as often as they get it right.

Looks like MS is trying to take a chapter out of Mac Osx, let the beta testers hang on to their beta visions and in MS case tech preview for the device.

If we keep on testing or drop out, eventually we should end up with the same product in the end, meaning normal updates (for non testers) will still be applied and keep us up to date?

Yep, eventually you'll get the bits I've tested and approved for you, Meebers. Sorry, you left it wide open for me.

And then I'm on to bigger and better tests for you . . .
