I think he's saying the he had a clone of 8.1 upgraded to 10 and in dual-boot with the original 8.1? Just guessing.
But I don't see why 8.1 had to be upgraded to 10 at this point when the preview is free as a stand alone OS.
Spot on...and the reason for such a dual boot was I used my M$ Account to be able to dual boot and retain all my setups.

This all worked perfectly from the first preview in OCT untill preview 10130 when M$ updates caused the locked drives.

Having rectified the locked drive as described earlier everything worked as normal until I installed 10147 and installed updates.

It appears to me that M$ locked the drive, ie- two systems using the same drive is not au fait, which is of course their way of making sure that only bona fida qualifiers could obtain the update.

I must admit also the above experiment was made hopefully after W10 is released to the general public, to be able to retain my copy of W8.1 and at the same time remain in the W10 Preview with a dual boot.
This I believe now is not possible.

My original post on the subject was to help a member who appeared to have the same problem as myself.

Mystere not having had himself experienced this problem, made suggestions which were completely irrelevant, and finished off by stating he could not understand what i was trying to say, such a shame to use such a demeaning statement.

Guys can I just mount the 10147 ISO from build 10130 and run it as if it was a CD/DVD and just install from windows?
    I don't have a DVD drive (SP3).

Awesome, thx heaps. Getting it now.... Can't wait!

Other question: Once I have 10147 installed, will it automatically update to the future TP builds if issued via windows update?

    Cheers

MS is promising that we will be able to upgrade W8.1 to W10 but also to use 10 in preview/test mode and receive new updates before others with full W10 install/upgrade. If that's true I'll probably keep on testing 10 and using 8.1 (in dual boot on separate SSDs) as it is now for some time.
BTW. I never had any problems with locked drives (have two SSDs and two HDDs built in and few external ones). Only problem with drives I had was after clean install of 10130 and before when other BOOT drive (with 8.1) had lost it's letter and had to give it manually.

Mike. Your dual boot of W8.1 and W10 on separate SSD,s, are they both under the same Microsoft Account umbrella as mine are, or is your W10 preview clean installed from an ISO.?

    How do you change drives.?

Yes, separate SSDs, same MS account, some things even synchronize, like desktop and most settings. 10147 over 10135. Used EasyBCD to set dual boot properly with W8.1 being default with 5 sec, delay. Can BOOT from either disk using F12 fast disk switch thru BIOS too. No bad interactions at all, with F12 being safer way if going thru BIOS, I used EasyBCD on either disk so result is same whichever I BOOT from with ability to BOOT from either without other disk present. Have also another disk with Linux on it but I BOOT to it thru BIOS exclusively. Don't like mixing such different OSes.

I don't know if leaked builds upgrade, as I have a metered connection, and on the tech preview/insider preview it doesn't/won't let me update at all through Windows Update. Mike maybe you can answer?

Never had any luck with updates to unofficial versions thru WU, I prefer using ISO for that so I can keep it for later clean install. Have collected all the ISOes since beginning, official or not.

No worries. Hey I'm on 10147 now. Heaps better than 10130. Glad I bothered. HEAPS better!!! Yeah it's getting a lot more refined. STill some bugs, but it's not bad at all.
