Maybe you could use Revo Uninstaller with advanced scanning mode to uninstall Chrome and all the registry entries associated with it ?

Revo did find the leftover key, but as stated could not uninstall. After I hit delete, in only flashed but did not complete. May try to reinstall Chrome and try Revo as you suggest.
Maybe you could boot to Kyhi's recovery environment and delete the reg key that way?

Aha! You downloaded Kari's ISO, which is as good as "from Microsoft to you". :)
I'm thinking if you go back to 1607 and update/upgrade to 14986, you'll still have the problem.
The time you're spending on this issue could be better spent doing a complete, bare metal install of Build 14986 from the ISO (no update/no upgrade) and then reinstalling your apps.
Of course, it goes without saying that you should first do a complete backup before proceeding just in case of a disaster. :) Your choice of backup methods.

Thanks for your help, Wynona.
The original installation of 14986 was bare on a formatted hard drive (nothing else on the entire drive) from the ISO. I will keep exploring and report anything signficant. My concern is I am infected with spyware, malware, etc, though a scan is negative.
At this point, if the system thinks it is an important key, I would just leave it.
Your other option is to clean install again and this time *don't* install Chrome on the new install if that key really is bothersome.
I certainly appreciate everyone's input.
I am not a tinfoil hat type guy but prefer to completely remove programs and not have unnecessary/unknown registry keys. Apparently, 14986 has the Chrome key as an integral registry key even though Chrome is not installed.
Thanks, again. :)
Fix Cannot Delete Error While Deleting Key in Windows 10
Just for info, I saw this very complicated method for taking control of the registry when a key can't be deleted. Doesn't seem like a good idea unless you are having system issues.
