I did a clean install with 14986 but have a Google Chrome registry key in HKCU which cannot be deleted. I manually removed Chrome(deleting registry keys, folders, checked for hidden folders) prior to the install.

Any ideas ? Spyware, etc ? Message when trying to delete "Cannot delete google. Error while deleting key"

If your ISO came straight from Microsoft to you, probably not spyware.

When you installed, did you format the Windows partition before installing? And then, when it asked how to install, did you choose custom?

Looks like a default setting for some component, and since it points to what looks like edge, the best thing I can think of is reinstall Chrome, make it the default browser, then uninstall again.

Thanks, may try. But any idea why the key can't be deleted ?

Because it is pointing to an active default is my guess

If your ISO came direct from Microsoft, then I'd try JohnGalt's solution if it were me. That may be a bit more work, but if it's a solution, then you are ahead.

It's not something to do with browser choice is it?

That is what I was thinking. By installing Chrome and then making it default, joyfully it will cost that key / associate it with Chrome, so the uninstall will allow it to be removed this time around.

Still receive message "Cannot delete Google. Error while deleting key"

I tried 3 different scenarios: (Google Chrome Dev was original download and was default browser on previous 1607)

    - Reinstalled Chrome Dev, made default, and uninstalled.

    - Reinstalled Chrome Dev, did not make default, and uninstalled.

    - Reinstalled regular Chrome, made default and uninstalled.

Should note that 14986 in only OS on this laptop and was installed after a drive format. The link was the ISO posted a few pages back.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Ran RevoUninstaller which identified the leftover registry key but could not uninstall it. When I clicked "Delete" on Revo it flashed but did not uninstall the key.

Thanks for your help. I will try other scenarios and likely will go back to 1607 and reinstall 14986. Will report anything significant.
