Finally! It took half a bottle of whisky, full day and half night but here it is.

New tutorial: Windows 10 ISO image - Create from Existing Installation - Windows 10 Tutorials

There is an*"esd" file that is in a subdirectory of Windows before reboot. It seems to be a zip file and I expanded it to 3 directories, 1, 2 and 3. 1seems to have the setup files presumably of 14986 but know wim file. I'm going to test this and see if I can make an ISO.

If you mean in \SoftwareDistribution\Download, and you want to try ESD2ISO, no go. Haven't tried the method Kari posted last night yet.

I will be trying Kari's method today. Unlike most installs, this time around I have only installed the game EVE Online, whereas usually I have the Origin client, Ubi client, Battle.Net client, and Steam, along with a slew of games in each. I am glad I held off on the games, I can make a full reinstall from my existing Host as well as from the VMs.

A friend of mine has Windows 10 home 64 bit 1607 14393.479, can't convince him that he does have Redstone1, he keeps on saying it's only Redstone (no ONE). He's just not getting it.
Can somebody please confirm it so I can show him ?

I know the ESDtoISO doesn't work. Going to try Kari's method and skip a few steps.

Wondering why that ESD is there

To help set up the new partition that UUP makes use of, perhaps?

    Looks like it but....
After a disk cleanup that partition contains only the biggest part of what's in the original recovery partition and the latter 450Mb partition then only contains what's left of it.

A clean install preserves the original partition lay out.

So, it seems there's work to be done there.

Guess I'll have to wait until the next Build to try it, John. In the first place, I don't have the time right now, and secondly, both 'chines are updated to 14986 already. With limited time to play (did I say play? Ha! This is hard work), I'll just have to wait awhile.

His is not an insider version so it doesn't show number on the desktop. Anyway that 1607 number should tell him all he needs to know to be sure to have Anniversary Edition and so called Redstone 1. Problem is that he doesn't get the numbering right and whole concept is strange to him.
He uses Linux mostly although no expert with it either and now he's expecting at least W13 or 14 by now. Also very difficult man to explain anything to, always has some own and unique look at everything. With him "Why" is always more important then "What". Anyway, he's convinced now since he read in Wikipedia that this is third stable edition he has. Didn't have heart to tell him that MS wouldn't release to public a version that is not stable (in their opinion) and that can barely have anything to do with code names and version numbers. Go figure !

I edited the registry of my AU install just so it shows the version of the build for you/him.
