Something else that's changed is that after W10has finished installing is a .WIM file the $WINDOWS.~BT\....\Sources dir called WindowsOld.wim. The is the .WIM file of the previous version you were running which I guess is used to roll back to that version.

So, be careful what you remove.

I have plenty of hard drive space, FDE, so I generally leave everything alone.

rename the installer.

I have nothing with *.esd --- in the software distribution directory.

Maybe it was there before we restarted, Magilla. I even did a search for *.esd and couldn't find it.

If you go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download you should see a few files, plus 2 directories:

1. 25fed0b50e411c492f2534985f43d82b
2. SharedFileCache

Go in the first one and you should see plenty of .ESD files.

I tried all three of the largest (>400MB) .ESD files but Esd2ISO will not read them.

Yeah, it would have been there before you actually restarted to install the build.
