Started a new VM, still cannot get it activated. Which means I cannot add a PIN (personalization limited by activation). Boo!

Anyhoo, got the reg keys entered in before I did anything else. The second one was not even there, so I created it myself....

    Night everyone,
You are special and make a big difference. While all of us are not technical experts, and while some of us are not programmers, each one of us makes a difference and adds to the over-all outcome for the betterment of our forum and for the better outcome of Windows 10 as it evolves.

It is wise (sometimes) to wait for second opinion @fdegrove

And thanks to @Bat 1 for posting solution here (if I remember correctly)
Yes, I believe he did post. He got it from a MrMagic at MDL...don't know who/what that is. He copy/pasted from the other post. Insider Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14986 for PC - Page 17 - Windows 10 Forums

Thank you so much @magilla for such a great compliment. I'm sure you and many, many other members deserve at least as much credit if not more so.

Once more thanks a lot, it's a warming feeling.

    Best,

Anyhoo, got the reg keys entered in before I did anything else. The second one was not even there, so I created it myself....

However, after my laptop finally came back up, I got another prompt about how satisfied I was with the updating process. This time, I captured the text I entered (along the same lines as the first time, maybe a little bit nicer, though...)

I no longer have a reliable way of creating a backup installation .ISO in case my build tanks. This is an Insider Preview build, for crying out lout, and if I attempt to fix a problem and hose my system, you want me to install AU and then wait for as long as a couple of days before I can get back on the current IP build?

    Shame on you, Microsoft.
Granted, it's only temporary, as we should have a reliable way to make the .ISO again soon, but still....

Well, that's the end of my testing. I've grabbed the install.esd and made a working ISO. Updated a VM with it successfully and clean installed a new VM with it. At least I have it if needed for anything. This may be the last "build" until January or later, so I have it if needed for repair, install, DISM work or whatever. I'll just wait for the formal tutorial to see how it plays out. Good luck to all however you get your tools. TC

Odd. The new install on the VM is not getting any updates....

And I checked - it is definitely on FAST ring.

Yea it was written by abbodi1406 who is the one that did the esd to ISO decrypter. Dude is sharp.

I also just read that someone had downloaded using the UUP but didn't install. Instead he deleted the download, used the reg edit and started downloading again and it came in as a .esd so if someone is at that point they won't have to rollback and start again.

This way is good in the fact that downloads can be stopped and later resumed, but We'll capturer the .esd download links and share with others that either can't get the upgrade started or want to do a fresh install right off the bat. Guess M$ might not like that and it's another reason for the change ?
