That sure conflicts maxiumpc article. Just adds more confusion.

Yes, you will need a valid Windows 7/8.x license even if you are part of the pre-release testing program.

Whatever I said believe it or not? I read on Technet that updates to the TP will continue after the RTM, as stated earlier it is my opinion that they will expire on 10.1.2015

Unfortunately, Gabe tends to be a bit terse. What he means is "Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 10 from the Insiders Preview for free, using your valid Windows 7/8.x key".
My bet is that the Win10 Insider Preview will be among the qualifying OSes you have to have installed in order to go to RTM.

So it will be Win7, Win8.1 or Win10 IP pre-installed that will allow an immediate upgrade--and all of those licenses will authorize the Win10 RTM license. (Win10 Insider Preview build licenses already are authorized & activated by Microsoft.) But when it comes to a full install from the upgrade media (iso) you'll have to have a key--which I'd bet will be your Win7 or Win8 key, most likely, unless Microsoft provides Win10 Insiders with their own key--which is also a possibility.

I wasn't saying you were right or wrong. It just how different articles interpret stuff. Waltc could be correct, I sure hope he is. I would like to continue my triple booting. If not, windows 7 stays & windows 10 goes.

I know, I just wish someone from MS would make a declarative statement regarding this. I am with you, if I cannot use the TP I will stay with Windows 7 at least for 364 days after 7.29.2015.

That is the way I think it will work. That was true for prior upgrades of the OS

No, they have not said that, not even close. They've said you will need a valid license, and that your license will be upgraded. They have not even said if they are going to issue new keys. I personally think you will install your Windows 10 using your 7 or 8.x key, and no new key will be issued (though this is just a guess).
You just said exactly what I said, while telling me I'm wrong.

This statement from Gabe Aul at Microsoft is already pretty clear to me:

MS has said numerous times that by upgrading to Win 10, you'll actually be upgrading the license & key of the old OS to a Win 10 license & key. I can't believe this key would be valid for both.
you dont upgrade it to a win10 license & key. you upgrade it to a w7 and w10 license/key (w8+w10 respectively).
but the logical error you make here is that you think it is two licenses after the upgrade. which it isnt.
it still is ONE license for ONE installation ONLY. but you can install w7/w8 or w10

    and you also said:

The link may not say it, but you will have to give up your Win 7/8.* license to get the free upgrade. In other words, you won't be able to use both the OS you upgraded from and Win 10; once you upgrade to Win 10 you're stuck with Win 10 (unless you purchase a new license).
you are not stuck with win10, you can always go back with the key/license you have after the upgrade.
this was confirmed multiple times now.
