I had that same error, but after using Malwarebites. I did the update, did the sfc /scannow as alway do when updating, and found nothing.

Then, I installed Malwarebytes, because since a year ago, I never used any anti malware software (other than Eset Smart Security as my antivirus). Once I did an analysis, I did again the sfc /scannnow, and it showed an error that coudln't be repaired. Then I went for the DISM solution, and nothing worked. My only solution was todo an in place upgrade, keeping all my programs and personal files. That solved everything.

So, note to myself: don't do any experiment. I knew, due to my experience, that cleaners use to mess with everything, and now I know some other ant malware programs, can mess with everything too.

My way to go: antivirus and common sense. Other than that, let Windows self-manage itself. It just works.

Is anyone else experiencing more frequent random crashes with Edge after this update? I have had 3-4 strange crashes that did not occur prior to the update.
    I

Yes I have ! I am getting these crashes on my ACER desktop, since the last update At least once every two days. Each time it crashes, EDGE brower is open,... and the mouse and keyboard become inoperative. I have to force a hard shutdown and restart to get things going again.

Just wanted to report this .

On my other two laptops ,... No problem at all

Just wanted to add, my antivirus is Kaspersky ( KAV- 17.0.0.614 b) I Don't use Malwarebytes, Ccleaner, or anything else in addition to my KAV.

The last time I had a crash, I had to hard reboot my laptop - when it came back on my start button and Edge no longer worked. I had to re-install w10 for like the 15th time in the past 14 months because of this! SO ANNOYING! None of the fixes online for "critical error when start button clicked" worked. I don't know why Microsoft can't come up with a way to prevent this idiotic problem. It has been this way since W10 was released.

I am also experiencing some rather strange freezes when using MS Edge since the last round of updates.

Initially I was unsure if possibly it was due to not having run the latest Windows Defender updates, and then I decided to run MRT.

If anything after running MRT, the problem has got worse. Is it possible that MRT is affecting some legitimate operation running under MS Edge?
    What is MRT?

Some serious issues on my side of the globe!

    - my online back-up program won't launch it's GUI anymore
    - my ESET Smart Security v10 FireWall is not responding to any new made connections

Was troubleshooting this for a few hours, no luck. Before I revert back to 14393.351, any directions?

    Cheers
Restored a 14393.351 clone backup and updated to 14393.447 again. Seems playing better with my online backup and ESET. I'll wait and see during more days of workflow.

    Cheers

Just discovered that opening Groove after this update, I get a black screen on my PC. My laptop is OK though, anyone else got this problem ?

The only way to get out of the black screen is to force a re-boot (holding the power button) ctrl alt delete wont even open up task manager to stop Groove.

Hmmm, not seen that. That sounds like an extremely irritating glitch. Does the same happen when opening the films tv app (I can't remember it's precise name)? Only because both apps have similarities (user interface etc) so it's possible that if one plays up the other might do the same.

i am sure you probably already tried but first you could go store and into the updates section just in case there is an update to groove, it may be stuck/waiting to install. Next you could try resetting the app from the Windows settings / apps section. From memory go down the apps list, select the offending app which in this case is groove and then select advanced. It should then show an option to reset the app.

doubtful either of those suggestions will fix but worth a try

Edge screen will stay on, cursor will move, but I can't type in any of the fields. Forcing the computer in and out of sleep made it resume 3 out of 4 times. (had to reboot once)
I had the problem with not being able to type in any of the fields - not related to this update. Nor would Edge 'crash' per se but also clicking on a link wouldn't open the page.

After doing some research, i learned that a possible solution was to reset Edge -

After doing so, all issues with Edge are resolved (knock on wood!)

    HTH.

I had to reinstall W10 because the last crash took out the start button and edge.

I didn't have the edge crash for several days after the re-install but it eventually came back. This wasn't happening at all prior to the latest cumulative W10 update.
