Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14946 for PC and Mobile Insider
-
LOL I saw we posted at the same time, went to add this part to my post:
Once a PC has digital license, you can for instance clean install any build you want to (starting from 10586, first one with digital entitlement). It is absolutely completely totally irrelevant if the machine is or has been an Insider machine.
Buying today a new PC from shop which comes let's say version 1511, you can upgrade it with this weeks Insider build 14946 and it remains activated non-Insider Windows. It does not automatically join Insider program, nor does it require the user to join Insider program.
Only difference is that on other non-Insider machines running an official build (version 1511 or 1607 at the moment), Windows never expires. Windows will expire on a machine which has been upgraded with an Insider build, or on which an Insider build has been clean installed, regardless if the user decides to not join Insider program and machine remains a non-Insider machine.
Even original build 10240 had digital licences for upgrades from 7/8 or 10 bought from MS Store. I would not recommend reinstalling that though.
The significant change with 10586/1511 was the ability to clean install and activate using 7/8 key at same time. With 10240 you had to upgrade first to get digital licence then clean install.
10240 never actually said you had a digital licence - just that you were activated from memory.

Well, I finally got set up in a dual boot so I can test the insider stuff again.
I have to set up the build today but that will be fast.

Good luck with a dual boot.....I had nothing but trouble with the two O/S,s clashing on same SSD.
Solved by installing a Dual Hard Drive Rack with quick swop over.

I'm dual booting Windows 10 Insider and Windows 10 AU on a 500GB SSD. No problems at all.

Same here. For me it's the best way to go for now.
Setting up a dual boot is really not that hard.

I sure did but I decided to set up a dual boot so I can continue with the insider program.
Thanks for your interest.
