I wish Paint, Windows Media Player, and other applets would be removed from Windows. I don't think they should be included in an OS, they just cause more bloat.

They should be made stand-alone and available in the store.

The good-old DOS system didn't include much in the way of bloat but then we couldn't do much productive work with it. It took the advent of Windows 1 to get things more useful and it has been progressing ever since. Even the many versions of Linux contain and install what some folks would call bloat but by and large most of that bloat makes the computer more useful. Some of the bloat does reduce the expense for many users by not having to buy 3rd-party software but it all hinges upon what a user really needs and can use.

I agree.. Linux come with more "bloat" than Windows does but the tools are rather good and it does save time installing them later on. I think that Paint, notepad.. Ect are great tools and I use them all the time. Great time savers by not having to install them or find third party tools.

I can think of 3 or 4 FREE paint programs better than MSPaint. In fact, I can think of free apps to replace all of the Windows applets.

Maybe there should be a "Windows Lite" version that has just the OS, and a premium Windows that has all the bloat your heart desires.

That or something like that was my idea too. Just an OS with minimal interface and no applets or programlets or wachamacallts past what's needed to run system. Windows like that would be cheaper too because they appear free to us but somebody had to be payed to develop them or MS would have to pay royalties to somebody else as they do now. I must admit that in past I used to replace them regularly but later on I either got used to them or they got better. Most I use are calculator, paint and notepad or word pad as poor man's Word. Sticky notes and Snipping tools are something I used 3rd party for but now they are pretty good and usable.

    Got the Corel stuff, here..

I occasionally use Paint to do a quick resize.. or to crop an image..
if I'm feeling creative I use whatever's to hand..

I check out the preview of the new paint and.. I didn't really like it all that much. Overall I would rather keep the old paint and have an option to use the new one if I want to. For most of my graphic work I use either Paint.net or Gimp. Both are really solid tools and free.

    Can't beet free.
