    Sheesh! It happened again . . .

Walked away from the computer, it went to sleep, and when I came back and tried to wake it up, it wouldn't! Dayam, Microsoft!

So, hard shut down and attempted reboot, but it wouldn't! Dayam, Microsoft!

Hard shut down again, pulled power cord, held down power button for a minute and she booted. This is definitely not something I can live with!

I have already terminated Hibernation, so that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm not sure a clean install would work, but I may be forced to try it.

What a drag! CountMike below suggests a HW issue. One possibility might be your display adapter drivers - MS has been fiddling around with them of late, it seems. Maybe try a fallback to earlier version? Or try the MS Basic Display driver - that's what I've had to do for the last several drivers, though that seems to be because I have an ancient CPU that doesn't do SSE4. But they worked fine until about 14926, maybe the build before.

Wynona, is this a laptop or a desktop?
On my desktop I need only to hit a key or move the mouse to resume from sleep,
but with my laptop, I need to hit the power button once.

Also check your power button options, to see if it is set to sleep, shutdown, hibernate...etc.

That's some of HW scwewing up with you. Check BIOS for power saving modes. Turn them all off and let windows handle it.
I'm not too sure of that, Count. There haven't been any problems up to Build 14942, and it's just too coincidental for it to be happening exactly when I installed the Update.

You could try a repair upgrade by creating an iso from install.esd (see tutorial under letter E), double clicking on it and running setup.exe. This keeps all apps etc installed. Obviously back up valuable data
Thanks, Cereberus. Yeah, I can create an ISO, but it's just as easy to clean install and reinstall my apps, since I run this test machine pretty lean. And, my data is all on an external drive, which I unplug from the machine when I clean install.

It's a desktop and wiggling the mouse or hitting a key has always worked to wake it up. Not any more!

This part says "BIOS" all over it. Why it is going to that stage is another question.

Hmmmmm, I could set it to never go to sleep! Wonder if that would work? :)

That should definitively work. If it doesn't go to sleep, it doesn't have to wake up. You can call it Kari.
