I tried the Hide app list in the Start menu. I prefer to show apps so I turned it off.
After 2 failed attempts to upgrade, first by using windows update and the second time by mounting the created ISO and attempting to keep my files & apps I finally had to choose the "Keep Nothing" option to get 14992 to install.
After the clean installation I could not find the classic "Control Panel" shortcut that should be located in the Windows System folder in the All Apps menu. This was easily solved by navigating to "C: Windows/System 32/control" and creating a shortcut on the Desktop that can be moved to the Windows System folder.
I don't know if this has been previously mentioned yet, but Control Panel has been replaced by Settings in the Win+X menu in Windows 10 build 14942.
Control Panel - Open in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
I'm pretty sure they did, WinUser. IIRC, we were told early on that the Control Panel would be gone.
That said, I just right clicked on the start button, click on Search, then type control panel>Enter and it pops up.
I also right clicked on Start>Run and typed in Control Panel.
Of note is the fact that when you start typing, you have to type the whole thing out . . . just another way to get us to go in the direction MS wants us to go.
And then there is the link to the tutorial for a few more ways to get to the Control Panel.
Installed and running. No (known!) problem here.
Ctrl Panel - death by a thousand cuts. The shortcut on my desktop is still there, though!
