update KB3035583 installed 2015-05-22 but KB3015696 2015-05-14 seemed to have failed. don't know if that one got anything to do with it. I will reboot now anyways to see if it picks up the icon.

    thanks

Nope after a reboot and a check to see if any new updates were available I still don't have the icon. Guess I will just wait and see if it appears tomorrow.

    cheers

I find it very strange that my wife's laptop got the icon on the taskbar and my desktop does not have it there yet I wonder is that due to the fact I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 pro and then to 8.1?
Anyone else not having the "Get Windows 10" icon on taskbar yet?
    cheers
I got Win8.1 on tablet. Haven't gotten the notification yet, either.

I think making this an auto update is a poor choice. Most people wont even understand what the hell happened to their computers.

If Microsoft wants to offer it free, then let people manually download it. IMO

It's not an auto update, it's an opt in one.

My understanding is that once, you accept it will be automatically installed. None the less. the articles solution isn't a fix, it will never go away, even if you uninstall it as the article suggests, it will be right back on the next update. You can right click and hide it, but eventually that will show up again.

We have 8 machines running 7, 8, 8.1 and we use Media Center on all of them. I simply do not like, or want Windows 10 and I don't want to have to worry about someone in the house hold or outside clicking the install. To me it is cheap an almost an unethical way to handle it. If people want it let them go to the site and manually install it.

Just my opinion, it is half of the reason I dislike Windows 10, no way to select what updates will do, without getting a Pro edition.

Maybe after the first year it will be gone forever, and I won't even have to think about it. God I can already hear friends calling and saying "Hey, how do I switch back to my old Windows?" <good grief>

If you read everything you will see
in 2 step called Install that its not automatic there is written something along the lines of:
When it's ready to install you will get notification where you can choose to install now or later.

I may be wrong, but the way I read it is that if you reserve your copy of W10, at some point it will download to your computer and after that you will be notified that an the upgrade is ready to install.

That's the identical upgrade path that I followed, and I do have the Win10 notification on my Taskbar, as from early this morning.

I have Win 8.1 Pro 32 bit. i had the icon on my task bar also. I just went to windows update and looked for update kb3035583 in installed updates and uninstalled it. Rebooted computer, ran windows update again and it was there as an optional update. I then just hid the update. Running windows update again did not show the update at all then. It was there when i checked the restore hidden updates page too. I never did open the icon on the task bar though. i never even went through the reserve this copy procedure. Did this or will this update show up again? I don't know. I just wanna wait a bit until i can get a retail DVD of Win 10 and wait for a few more bugs to be gone. Looking forward to the launch :)
