. . .it would appear a few folks need some Valium. . .:)
Nothing wrong with that idea. Remember "Haste makes Waste"! The smart move is actually to wait in order to verify as much as possible that the download is complete with nothing missing and intact not corrupted in any form.
This is what I will be waiting for anyways having set the 7 clone to automatic updates while having the 7 host unplugged to allow the download to commence on it's own once the time arrives which here is showing just under 11hrs. now at 10Hr:50Min:98sec
I suspect after Midnight Eastern Standard Time in the US and likely after 3am allowing for the time zone difference at Redding some will find it already active and as one thread pointed to is showing some people already at least parts the process may actually be a bit more randon then simply this entire location and then this one over there and that one here, etc.
If randomized some here and some there will be seeing it while others wait their turns to prevent as I was saying earlier a bottle neck with everybody trying at the exact same time. Despite the noticeable size difference coming by way of updates it sounds like ti will still go out in the same or similar fashion as all other regular updates are seen.
Some are a bit ANXIOUS no less but to be expected. For me W10 will still be a secondary OS for the time being since I have no interest in dumping W7 Ultimate x64 where I already know everything runs and works for the time being. Plus I still look after some 8 laptops for people as well as a few 7s still going strong where no one else is interested in upgrading for the time being. The expression of 7 being the new XP seems to be true for some anyways as they were the last to move out of that old version into 7 until one friend got into a couple of 8 laptops.
10 here however will be run just like 7 was when Vista was still #1 host OS until the inner workings and what will work is uncovered for the next newer version which in this case is a larger skip and dance over 8, 8.1 from 7 into 10 in that sense. Once 10 is on I will soon find out just how it ticks!
That's good to know! I will be saving the patch there to a storage drive in prep for 10. Ever since 7 MS has been quite a bit more prompt at getting fixes out compared to what was seen with previous versions.(like SP3 for XP taking forever until 7 was almost in RC! )
Well when checking the count down that was no longer seen and when clicking the W10 icon this is what came up telling me all is well. :)
Well knowing me I decided to get over to Windows Insider to look around for the Media Creation Tool and found that quickly with instructions for downloading Windows 10 in Home or Pro, the language, and the choices of 32bit, 64bit, or BOTH on one ISO or USB Installation Key. Presently creating the key and then running the tool a second time to download 10 in ISO format for later burn to dvd a s well as having the ISO onhand.
Before any upgrade or with this CLEAN install takes place I will be waiting to find out if 10 will provide a new product key once the email for the reserved copy is in or do you use the key for the previous version already on? Some concern came on that other thread mentioned earlier.

My free upgrade hasn't started on any of my PC's yet. ISO's and Keys are up on MSDN now though. My keys are listed as Retail keys. You will need keys for some installations, that's for sure. I'm still waiting to see how the free upgrade handles that part though.
I have done it already.
Here are the steps:
1. Upgrade your Windows from your old OS when asked and make sure you Windows is activated.
2. Download MediaCreationToolx64.exe or 32 bit from Microsoft website.
3. Create ISO and boot.
4. Begin clean installation.
5. During the installation, Windows will ask for a key, do not enter your old OS key, just skip that part.
6. Once installation is done and you are connected to the internet and you will see that your Windows is activated without any key. MS seems to remember your hardware and previous activation.
Well since i reserved a freebie copy of 10 I expect the automatic email will bring me to the page with a product key there once I click on the link that sees. In the meantime I got the Media Creation Tool and started the first download for USB Install Key about 3:20am and now at 92% for the second run of that to get the ISO option.
The iso burn to dvd won't allow you to see a clean install however like the usb key will. Keep that in mind! With the key I can nuke the 7 clone right off of the drive and put a nice clean copy of 10 on it appears!
The capture above shows the differences between the $Windows~WS sub resources sub folder and the files you see on a USB setup key. You can see how the key provides just those few extras like the setup.exe file in particular when booted off flash drive while the premade iso from MS only allows upgrade over. Of course by extraction and another usb key tool like UltraISO.... ? You can also custom install to another primary while booted in the existing Windows for dual booting the two versions as another option available using the flash drive method. Otherwise when using the MS tool for a dvd upgrade only.
Good to know! That will save a bit of time unless performing a full clean install when wiping the older version entirely in the process by nuking the previous version's Windows folder. The 30day trial previously seen will now be automatically activated by the 10 installer's memory of the previous activation as you are saying. I'll be putting that to the test later anyways.
Even if I do a clean install, I still don't need a product key?
I had 6 updates on my 8.1 machine this morning when I turned it on, going back to look at the update history it showed Upgrade to Windows 10 showing as failed, and again looking later at 12.15pm it showed as failed.
I'm an insider and reserved my copy and was told I was good to go and everything was compatible so not sure what's happening.
