    I got my confirmation email. I really like the small print at the bottom(I'll enlarge it here for the ones with sight disabilities):

    Windows Offer Details
    Yes, free! This upgrade offer is for a full version of Windows 10, not a trial. 3GB download required; standard data rates apply. To take advantage of this free offer, you must upgrade to Windows 10 within one year of availability. Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device.

    Our lawyers made us say this:
    Windows 10 Upgrade Offer is valid for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices, including devices you already own. Some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device and market. The availability of Windows 10 upgrade for Windows Phone 8.1 devices may vary by OEM, mobile operator or carrier. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer. To check for compatibility and other important installation information, visit your device manufacturer’s website and the Windows 10 Specifications page. Additional requirements may apply over time for updates. Security and features are kept automatically up-to-date which is always enabled.

    *Not available in all markets.

    The reason I asked about the W update, the last one I did is the last one I did. It made a horrible mess of my computer. It emptied my MS Office folders, my Libre folders and a system restore did not work. I could not fix anything so I did a reformat. My 8.1 laptop is fairly new, so it won't be a problem. I am not putting 10 on my desktop W 7, at least not until I try it on my laptop.

    About my DVDs not playing on my laptop even with VLC, I am assuming because they were Bluray's, they need a special player like they have for the TV.

    thanks for all the replies.

    Emma,
    I don't know if the windows 10 during upgrade will remove the files that allows dvds to be played in windows 7 via windows media player or if they are just removing the dvd feature from windows media player in windows 10. If you have a dvd player VLC should be able to play any dvd in windows 10 with the exception of blu-ray. You need a Bluray drive for Bluray disk. Vlc Bluray still had some issues (I don't know if they have them fix them).

    Thanks, Groze. I just tried a Blueray disk and it just sat there and did nothing. I inserted the regular disk, and it told me the name of the disk and that I need to get a DVD player.

    I'm going for Kodi.

    @Wynona
    If using VLC, sometimes you need to open dvds via the VLC application.

    I think I am going to do some testing with the new build once ISO is released. Since, I found out, I can keep being a beta tester for free and keep my windows 7 as well. However, I may do test upgrade first.

    Yehhhhhhhhhhh, best of both worlds!

    I'll keep testing just because I like to test, but it'll be good to keep my license to Windows 8.1. Having unused licenses laying around is good.

    when I put a reg dvd in the laptop, it did what someone else said, the name and info popped right up without me doing a thing. I never activate Windows Media player, I prefer Itunes. Much simpler to learn and use.

    Wynona as crazy as it sounds I like to solved my own computer problems. I thought I had solved the acer losing my settings on my taskbar items, but I haven't yet. The games folder and the tools folder are gone after the laptop has been shut down for a few days. I thought I was just forgetting the taskbar locking routine, but that was not the problem. I will keep working on it. It feels so good when I solve my own problems. It's odd how the little things like that stupid keyboard icon is on the TB every time I turn the pc on after being off for awhile. I need to check the advance settings and see if I can find a setting there to stop it.
