Start the "Upgrade program" instead of windows updates. The one on your taskbar.

Did you have to enter a product key during upgrade? (Don't post your key)

I'm an insider and reserved my copy and was told I was good to go and everything was compatible so not sure what's happening.
I made the usb install key and once it went past the solid logo screen not animated like 7 is the screen went totally black and nothing else until after so long I hit the reset and it automatically reverted back to 7. So I will try again and still haven't received the email notification as of yet for my particular system.

That provided a new screen now already having shown the "You are good to go" and now shows a button to be notified. I suspect the upgrades are being randomized all over. This is why the failed upgrades seem to be premature for you according to the order of who reserved 10 before someone else.

Supposedly, that patch is KB3074683, which I received on 27 July; however, my build number still shows simply 10240, rather than the hashed out 10240.16405.150725-1815.th1.

So I guess I shouldn't expect to see anything other than the daily Windows Defender definition updates?

No man, no key was asked. It just started updating and once I got to desktop windows was activated.

I wonder if it's now safe to delete "windows old" directory 17GB

    Still no update so....

....downloading the Windows 10 install files onto a spare 8GB USB flash drive.

Must be connected to a really slow server.

I downloaded the iso in less then 2 minutes. it also depends on your country and internet speed. '
    I have a 1Gig/sec connection. So maybe that's why

Does anyone here believe that Windows 10 will be very likely to come out in June 2015 or is that wishful thinking? I want it now so badly but I would hate to have to wait until September or even July or August. Microsoft needs to speed things...
