I still have the 64bit 7 Ultimate running here with the 64bit release of maybe not the latest but the 2012-13 release of VM Player seen while 8 was in the first CP beta release. The CP was 64bit and ran on the VM Player version seen at the time as well as on the previous release. Lately however the 10 Preview was having the problem of no connectivity to the web while another Linux VM connects as well as having seen the 8 CP do get on as well. VBox didn't cut if for 10 however when that program was tried.
Actually I didn't even have the time for getting into the Preview as much as I would have normally seen to. But there's no worry at this time since 10 will be out in one week's time in retail form being the finished product I will run as the second OS. As with any newer version I always dual boot in some fashion when first seen in order to find out not only what the new eye candies are but to see what will or won't run as far as softwares on the latest. That also coincides with any additional hardwares, devices being used like a tuner card still in use presently that won't see any 10 drivers for sure having been discontinued. So I have to keep 7 on until that is replaced by something both 7/10 compatible or in other words seeing driver support for both versions as well as 8 and 8.1 being newer hardware. No biggie however!
Actually XP to Vista was the largest leap other then 98SE to XP thought to be the largest leap that is. On the other hand like 8 is to 8.1 Vista was to 7 a much easier transition into the newer version. I couldn't expect something three versions newer to be that smooth as far as the compatibilities are concerned but will be finding out soon!
I am using VMware Player 7.1.2 which is the 64 bit version. For some reason I can't run 64bit operating systems in the vm even though I am running Windows 8.1 Pro as the host. I have an Intel Pentium B960 dual core processor. It does not support Vt-x. That is probably why I can only run 32 bit in the vm.
Also 2 of my laptops are not showing the windows 10 icon in the right bottom part of the taskbar. All uodates are done but it never asked me on either machine if i wanted to reserve windows 10. Both run 8.1 pro
since windows 10 is offered free for one year will it be offered thru windows update if you did not reserve it?
The cpu not supporting Virtual Machines will present problems at times without a doubt! The Pentiums were never to see anything like actual VM support you can expect to find with something much new like the Core 3, Core 5 models. The same went for AMD cpus there too with AMD seeing support incorporated into the Phenom Is and IIs as well as the newer models compared to the old Atholon Is. First came the need for x64 support and later the VM type architecture. While I have a Phenom II here I can't connect to the web with the 64x 10 Preview being another issue.
Now speaking of 64bit I have to wonder which edition or will both Home and Pro be what is available free? This is one thing that hasn't been indicated at the Windows site.
It wouldn't be other then 32/32 or 64/64 as far as the match of the kernel. I was referring to 10 Home or 10 Pro in case you have that option available. Those with paid MSDN subscriptions will simply because they already have full access across the board to everything MS has out and will put out while the subscription is still good. Having 7 Ultimate on doesn't tell me if that will count as far as the edition when and if you go to upgrade.
