For those who prefer to wait for Microsoft to release a fix for the cumulative update to 14393.222, I found this on Neowin:

Microsoft working on a for failed Cumulative Update installs to 14393.222

Neowin released the above article approximately six hours ago.

Very good, Doogie. That means Microsoft is aware of the situation and working on it. Methinks it's about time!

A cursory scan of the article tells me they've been aware of the problems all along; they could have at least let us know they were working on it!

It amazes me that MS seem to have known about it all along and still released it to the general public. I got the update through the Insider Preview Release Ring and it installed ok on my machine. When I say ok I mean the installation went smoothly, however I get 4 AppReadiness errors reported after every bootup. Still there are posts on that issue in another thread on here and also on the Microsoft Community Forums, I've also reported it on Windows Insider Feedback.

I see Brink's post and that of others about MS preparing a fix. That's great.

The whole problem apparently was due the flawed bits for x64 "amd64_windows-gaming-xbox..e-service-component_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.206_none_8d69e9ef51b61cf1"

On the DISM scanhealth, checkhealth: Your results are fine & expected. I suggest ceasing to attempt any other ( as fas as health).
You appear to report your pc is still trying the download via Windows Update ( on its own, which is expected) but you need to stop that since it is having repeated problem in just getting the download.
You appear to report you did disable and remove the 2 tasks fox Xbox and having delete the 2 reg keys. So I won't relist those steps.
What I suggest is a number of steps, listed in general here.
1 - Use the hide-show tool wushowhide, using this link. Disregard the word "driver" in the write-up.
    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...owhide.diagcab
Save the download to your system. Then run it. The intent is to simply "hide" KB3194496 from being offered up any more.
    2 - Reboot system
3 - Get a elevated command prompt and type this in to temporarily stop the windows update service
press Windows-key+X kets and select Command prompt (Admin) & type
    net stop wuauserv
Use Windows Explorer and go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
Delete all content of that folder
4- Save the installer-cabinet file from Microsoft. Be sure you save to a folder & make a note of it.
    this link for 32-bit Windows

    This link for 64-bit Windows
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/...2665aad56e.cab
5 - Go to the folder where you saved the file. Shorten up the name by using RENAME.
    Something short, such as, kb3194496.cab
This will help you when you apply the update, like this.
6 - While Windows is in normal mode, open an elevated command prompt window.
Use DISM to apply the update-cab into the current Windows image.
Basically that command line goes like this
    DISM /online /add-package /packagepath:c:\folder-name\cab-name

Notes: C drive is the drive that contains the Windows 10 o.s.
folder-name needs to be replaced with the name you used on your machine.
cab-name is the name of the cabinet file on your machine.
7 - Reply Yes when prompted by DISM when it shows a successful run. Have patience while Windows restarts.
8 - Go back to the hide-show tool wushowhide and unhide KB3194496
9 - Use winver. Do a visual check that it shows version 1607 build 14393.222
NOTE: Your system's Windows update history will not show as having applied this KB.
    Don't freak out about that.

    Maurice Nagger,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
As MS is going to release a fix I think I'll wait until then and see what happens. If it doesn't work I'll try your fix which appears logical. I've been trying for a couple of days to get it to update and have tried most of the steps your suggest but not necessarily together.
    Thank you again.
    David.

I'm with Wynona and LittleJay on this, no problems apparent and I've done 4x Desktops [now working on a 3rd], 8x Notebooks, 1x 2-in-1 and 2x Tablets.

    Still no joy!

    Maurice,
I couldn't wait and so have tried your suggestion.
The end result is the same, it installs to 44% then jumps to 100% with the usual error. See attached photo & log zip!
The computer is running normally all the other updates have installed without a problem. Version 187.
It installed without a problem on my other computer.
I don't see others with the same error?
Do you have any more suggestions?

Did you remove the folders? I was told they have to be gone too.
