Is Microsoft Ignoring One of the Top User Requests for Windows 10?

    Posted: 28 May 2015

Microsoft has promised to work together with users to develop Windows 10, and many of the features that are part of the existing technical preview builds, including the Start menu and its options, are based on suggestions submitted by insiders.

But if we look at the official Windows UserVoice channel, the fourth most voted submission is yet to be implemented in Windows 10, although the Insider program was started in October 2014.
Add tabs to File Explorer,” this suggestion reads, and it's no surprise that users want the built-in file manager to come with more advanced features that could help it compete with similar third-party apps that are already enjoying big success on Windows.
“Title is self explanatory. Please add tabs to Windows Explorer/File Explorer. Every other OS has this feature and Windows is severely lagging behind,” the poster goes on to say. Until now, no less than 28,000 people have voted for this feature that is yet to be implemented in Windows 10.
What's more, there have been no leaked builds or suggestions offered by Microsoft employees that File Explorer could get tab support in the coming updates, so it'll be interesting to see if this suggestion is indeed implemented.

Yes It would be real nice instead of having to open a separate explorer to compare or move files just open a new tab. No it is not a deal breaker for me either. Or M$ is planning to strip out Explorer and put in an APP all APPs that I have seen have not been as rich as the desktop Applications they have replaced.

And there are third party tools so that should make up for that "issue".

Lets hope the third party stuff can stay compatible with W10.

I spend a lot of time in File Explorer and separate File Explorer windows (and ALT TAB) works perfectly fine, so I don't really get why it's such a popular request? I certainly don't get why it would be a priority item, when I've seen more important suggestions on UserVoice? Is it tablet users who need this feature maybe?

Anyway, is it possible the traditional File Explorer is being replaced with something else altogether?

Just because it's not coming in the RTM doesn't mean Microsoft is ignoring it... There are probably a million features they'd like to have in there, but they only have so many resources.

If it's that important, it will probably come in a feature update sometime after RTM.
