It only allows the download to start again, so if it stalls again, retry. I had to try 2 or 3x.

I have been keeping up with this thread and I am confused. Why are people trying to force the download? What's so important about this download that people feel the need to have to force it or install it manually? It's just a download, if you get it fine, if you don't what difference does it make?

Can someone please answer my questions because I am confused.

The main problem is that the download, delivered in the normal way, often simply hangs at x% for hours.. and does not continue.
At that point, sthg needs to be done.

That should be clear if you have read the thread.

Amen - with me it's frustration caused by Microsoft releasing an update which would not install properly and not knowing what had or had not been done to my pc's. I've been down this road before with Windows 8.1 which crashed a couple pc's and it's a waste of time and effort, not to mention frustration. Some of us are not as computer literate as others - lol.

For anyone who cannot delete certain folders/files in the SoftwareDistribution folder, use the TenForums registry tweak to 'Take Ownership' of those folders/files and they should then hopefully delete OK.

I had to do this with some of the files and it worked for me. The tweak adds a right-click option in Explorer to let you 'Take Ownership' of anything.

A friend emailed me this link and said by following the precise instructions given here, he got this stuck update sorted. It relates to the W10 Anniversary Update but can be applied to this latest update.....

Nah, sorry but I've tried using that troubleshooter in the past and found it to be as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
