    !!!!!!!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I suggest you STAY AWAY from this update KB3189866. It applied on my Dad's laptop this morning and suddenly he was unable to open his start menu and his volume slider would not appear when he clicked on his speaker icon. It was also impossible to right-click anything on the task bar and use any of the options, such as "Run as Administrator". Basically the task bar did not do ANYTHING besides start an app on the task bar that you double clicked on. Right clicking the start button icon did bring up the usual system stuff. Oh, and clicking on the clock did nothing. I managed to right click on the task bar and get settings to pop up. I immediately went to updates and uninstalled the KB3189866 update and rebooted. Every then worked again. I have been using Windows since version 1 Beta (before version 1). I hate Bill Gates.

    BTW, this was on a factory high end $2000 HP-Omen Laptop purchased just last year.
    I have installed this update on 8 systems and it went in ok, so why put in Caps warning people

    In the last 2 days I have updated to 14393.187 on 2 Tablets, 7 Desktops and 7 Notebooks without having operational problems, have only my wife's Notebook left to do. On 1 of the Tablets and 2 Notebooks I did use the downloaded file to manually start the update, most likely the Wi-Fi connections were just weak enough to not let the download complete using Settings, Update and security feature. Or maybe I was just 'lucky' enough to hit a slow period connecting to the server.

    Why you people use Windows Update? It's totally useless. Try Portable Update or some other alternative.

    I guess that this is what you are talking about;

    Portable Update: Update Windows in an isolated environment. The first. The best.

    According to the folks at Portable Update software, the program will only run on Windows 10 build 10586, which will not do me any good.

    Actually it's only been tested with 10586, probably will work on later builds.

    Reading about it on their site suggests it is not for the usual consumers/users but more for IT departments.

    Sounds like something must have happened during the up-date process. Go into device manager, make sure your drivers are installed properly. If they are, I would suggest doing the manual up-date instead of the Windows Up-Date. Good luck!

    So have we concluded that it's most likely server choke that has caused our "stuck" downloads?
