The only bug first seen with the Threshold 2 update after a couple of months and now returned once again in the RS1 update brings up what was first not found solveable until the repeat performance resulted in finding a deeper hidden MS Answers replay to one two page thread pointing to a WinHelpOnline reference that outlines the lack of a folder descriptions entry in the registry that had been replaced previously by the available Insider build at the time and not seen until the RS1 arrived in all that time! http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/er...rs-windows-10/

The VMs would be stubborn at seeing the automatic sign in at startup but never froze up during boot. That was recently remedied however with one of the RS1 still preview builds.

That's an Insider build not the RS1 which has been seeing problems. So far haven't been seeing any problems on either the main or remote secondary with each having an external enclosure(main has fan cooled model) with a 1tb drive in each. Those had been pulled out of the main some time back when moving to a pair of 2tb server class drives and generally left off when not in use and especially when going from build to build allowing for each to have it's own fresh detection.

That seems to avoid any hangups or hangovers when going build to build while the remote desktop is presently in standby mode as far as the Preview builds go.
All that sounds very plausible and noting my new Haswell Core i5 PC in the specs runs a lot cooler by very nearly half at the CPU with the same workload and much cooler on the mainboard and overall inside in a larger HP OEM case. and no freezing on 3 other Intel PC's here .

I'm not seeing any random freeze problems on the 14393 .rs1 AU on this new PC in my spec. or 14915.rs on this SSD or using the external storage or 14905 same configuration when I rolled that in from an ESD I had despite it's other issues .

No freezing on 3 other Intel CPU PC here including 2 Core i7 and even after asking family users when they were on ..10586 th2 and now on 14393 .rs1 AU .

OTOH my 6 yr old HP PC now with a fried mainboard & AMD II x6 had the random freeing since at least the first th.2 builds stable or beta (didn't matter) all along up to 14905 before it fried that mainboard and I got this new Haswell Core i5 desktop delivered on 08.24.16

The dead upgraded 2010 HP /AMD PC was not particular about which Windows 10 OS to freeze including the betas or which HDD or the SSD or storage drive being used it would freeze on either .

That HP/upgraded to AMD Phen. II x6 and other upgrades and new storage drives along the way was at the end of its plausible upgradability and was 2010 AMD Phenom II x6 K10 ancient but SRSLY not bad outside of the random freezing with the faster than metal SSD in it .

I never saw the loading /log-on freezing at all though and that old dog would randomly freeze without warning and spike CPU and HDD use and take at least a minute or so to recover and not seeing that on the 3 Intel PC's here all along I was finally prompted to shop a new Intel PC anyway.

I was actually very nearly about to order this new PC when the old dog died anyway for the usual Intel performance , UEFI advantages today and the newer Haswell plus Intel CPU instructions and so on . .

AMD doesn't have anything plausible for me anymore ,YMMV even their room heating Flagship FX CPU gets bested by at Intel Core i3 in PC gaming .

I just pulled up the most favorable bookmark and ordered it and it was here 4 days later and no random freezing in this one dual booting 14393.rs1 AU I rolled in on OEM /OS & metal and clean installed 14915 on the SSD I put in it .

I paid my AMD dues more than once and regrettably a Pentium 4 when they were new , I'm done with AMD fior now and I never had a PC for 6 years for my daily driver & upgrades notwithstanding anyway .

The problems you described there weren't from AMD but the HP board going toast on you. As far as the main I will be keeping the RS1 on that while the second saw the 901 rolled back to the RS1 when going to examine the Recovery option. That went as if there hadn't even been any 901, 905, or 915 Insider build on at all there being one thing on the list of items to check off before seeing the Get insider builds option restarted again.

Here I have been running with the Phenom II Black Edition 965(dual core) first in the main replaced by the 975(quad core) having missed out on the 980 and moved the 965 into the second desktop used remotely as well as for testing and not one iota as far as performance hits. When considering the if and when for the next new build I would be pondering on the much newer Octocore(8 core) type series cpus since AMD has always had a work horse cpu that generally runs cooler to begin with.

As for the bulk of people running into log in freezing as well as problems with sticky driver issues I mainly here that from those running Intel and NVidia graphics while haven't been hearing hardly any AMD/ATI Catalyst type issues as had been seen in years past I hate to see AMD going south however since I've been pushing the main quite a bit harder at times then the test build ever sees despite upgrading a few things like how much ram and adding in a larger drive. Still have 7 as well as 10 running on both as well while it seems as though 10 will be taking over since 7 is now hardly been booted into except for a few tests at times with 3rd party wares.

Never had issues from the anniversary update. But since the last KB3176938, been seeing a random but infrequent display driver error (nvlddmkm). Thought it was the latest Nvidia driver I was on, so switched back to an earlier driver but the error still appears. Since this error only appeared soon after the KB3176938 update, am thinking it has something to do with it.

"nvlddmkm.sys" is the correct name for that and found on the GeForce forums as expected being an NVidia display driver that has seen a number of issues over the years! That has nothing to do with the latest update but likely having seen the WU go with the incorrect driver which seems to come up quite a bit with NVidia.

You may end up needing to refer to the guide on how at least temporarily disable the Windows Updates long enough to look up the correct update for what you have there as far as GPU or video card at the NVidia support site. I would be pondering on the much newer Octocore(8 core) type series cpus since AMD has always had a work horse cpu that generally runs cooler to begin with.

Beyond maybe a favorable price Why AMD FX ? My Haswell Core i5 sits at 32° 33° C *(even taxed to 100% on stock air ) you aint doing that with any AMD FX /APU 4 or more cores on the same workload that defies the laws of physics and AMD can't even do that unless you virtually submerge it with a water cooler and maybe not then

A new 4 Core Intel i5 on an SSD for SSD or metal for metal or in any case should make you think twice about an AMD Octa *8 slow cores* CPU on any drive even CPU boss has some of all that documented if one believes them and the widely accepted benchmarks there and an AMD at Core i3/i5/ i7 tit for tat or far above AMD with high cotton Intel Core i7 and certainly Xenon performance never happened and there virtually aren't any software or games optimised for AMD multi core scheduling anyway that might close the gap *a little *( that's part of the the implausible AMD FX fallacy vs Intel ) .

Microsoft Fixes the Windows 10 Freezing Issues-intel-vs-amd-here.png

AMD II x4 955 -965 -980 performance variances are insignificant at stock clocks as are the Athlon II x4 to the Phenom II x4 outside of cache and none of them ever approached S.B. Core i3 gaming or single thread ,K10 are ancient room heaters like the FX is now .

IOW I can't see anthing beyond a plausible budget and energy compromise to get an AMD CPU/APU , they haven't had anything plausible performance wise vs Intel lately except briefly in 2009- 2010 until the Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs destroyed any plausibility of AMD being a performance part vs Intel , even the lowly core i3 beats TOTL room heating flagship FX 9XXX AMD octa cores today at single thread and gaming and some (other) ..

I'm convinced Intel is my CPU product preference as is it is on (finally) all 4 PC here now ....YMMV .

OTOH that old K10 PC served me decent for 6 yrs (with some drama ofc ) and deserves to be repaired and sold or given away to someone that may use it ,it has a new 1TB HD in it ,8GB Ram and I can fix it with another inexpensive mainboard or just a few ~ 6600uf 6 or 8v 105° C Panasonic,Nichicon or Rubycon low esr caps from Digikey or Mouser that are probably much better than what it had and puked.

All that freezing I didn't see on the intel PC's here is very plausible by itself in my AMD/ am3 K10 IIx6 upgraded HP PC with a known to be lousy and likely gradually and progressively deteriorating main board that principally performance wise all around , was why I was shopping this very Intel Core i5 Haswell PC model in my specs I,m using with 14395 on SSD right now when it fried anyway besides wanting the usual Intel advantages and superior performance ........,

keeping in mind there are a Core i7 game /audio content creation production build and my Core i7 HP Elitebook here so I can see the significant differences and lack of heat and AMD K10/AM3 /AM3+ AMD CPU and other drama by comparison outside of the new Nvidia gaming d/GPU that likes the extra cooling beyond what it comes with and likes the GPU overclocking managed properly .

Who knows where the AMD slot A and 64 X2 talent went ....you can perhaps bet they are long gone with more favorable stock options

Ancient K10 CPU ran nearly twice the temps of this Haswell core i5 at the same workloads .

While that makes a plausible argument for better cooling and mainboard (but the heat still has to flow somewhere ( air flows from cold to hot and pushes hot air out of a confined space if allowed to ) besides the AMD K10 was 95W CPU vs this Haswell Core i5 83 Watt TDP max and new vs old and so on .

AMD Phenom II x6 1055 I have in the old dog is plausible only at an Core I3 performance level today ( barely but otoh not bad but not for gaming against an Core i3 ) and won't approach a S.B. or newer newer Core i5 like almost anything AMD makes performance wise in the real world ,

Outside of (a few) heavily multithreaded and uncommon beyond 4 core workloads that were never intended for or optimised for AMD multi core CPU that you won't usually find in professional content creation high end gaming and rendering rigs instead of Intel because of all that stuff Intel can do with half the slow AMD FX cores faster and better than abysmally slow single thread AMD results across the board that sums up the implausibility of an AMD FX performance CPU today that an i3 -i5 -i7 can out game.
OTOH some AMD can be fine for some folks that last one I had wasn't bad for everyday computing .

I'm kind of feeling left right out. Why is it that I could not get any of those freeze-ups? It seems I'm always the one that never gets the fun things.

Don't feel bad! You're not alone in that area.

I never seem to be able to run into half of the problems others seem to draw like magnets for some reason. After the initial extra storage being plugged in problem was seen last summer the only other main bug seen with 10 so far was a result of removing the clutter of folders now being seen in any explorer windows where one reg entry gets nuked for some reason only with the general release not Insider builds however.

With each laptop as well as desktop so far not one complaint about 10 being heard from the couple who saw the 10 upgrade from 8.1 go on and then the RS1 update not running any Insider builds and still they run 10 like it came on their laptops. One has an AMD and the other an Intel cpu with both of those running NVidia graphics while the new Toshiba I got in january is running with AMD/ATI. So you can't pin it on one brand or another!
