I think it doesn't bother me because of my background as a programmer. Things like this are the normal way to develop code/programs/systems to me. No matter how anyone cuts this we're testing the OS to see if the new features work properly and/or to report bugs that we find.

At least Dick found a work around for the settings issue and that's what matters,. IMO. We encountered a bug and a member her found a fix. How ninja is that.

I might not be a programmer but I'm quite used to snafus of all kinds. After all, I spent all my working life mainly as troubleshooter, cars, machines and everything else.

You sure do understand the process then. This is going to be a messy and rough ride from now on.. but it's going to be FUN!!

Fun is right, I ain't doing it for keeps, had enough of that and more serious stuff at work, now retired so who cares as long as I have my backups.

To clarify what I said in my previous post, I completely accept the fact that for the first time I had to restore previous build. In my case the issue is a bit older third party NIC, even if I'd like to blame Microsoft I can't. It's not their fault.

I decided to opt in to fast ring when first tech preview build was released. The decision was mine alone, as it is for all of us geeks. In my opinion complaining about this and that bug or fault in Insider Preview builds, accusing Microsoft of bad work or saying they are guilty for your possible issues is and remains untrue and unfair; it's your, and my own decision. If you are not ready to meet the challenge, to cope with possible issues, you should if not completely opt out but at least switch to slow ring.

I find it incredibly strange and wrong when experienced geeks complain about Microsoft using them as free and willing guinea pigs, free labour force for beta testing. It is so far from truth that if I would be a moderator here at Ten Forums and have something to say regarding this matter, I would remove all posts stating something like that and warn users not to post BS like that again.

Microsoft has created this system, Insiders in either Fast or Slow ring (and Release ring to those even more cautious) exactly for this purpose. They know they can release a build when they want to, relying on feedback from mostly Fast ring users, to find bugs and non-functioning elements faster. The system, the Insider Program is based on a 100% voluntary basis.

Let's make this absolutely clear: Microsoft is not forcing any of us geeks to test Insider builds, has never done that, will never do that. Don't like it, opt out. It really is that simple.

Notice that there's a huge difference in complaining how Microsoft forced you to install a build that broke your system, and giving feedback of something that does not work. In my case for instance the fact that I had to restore previous build is absolutely, completely most definitely not Microsoft's fault. My previous post here is and was part of the feedback process as an Insider, as was my direct feedback to Microsoft.

Although I had to restore an earlier build, I am keenly awaiting the next fast ring build. I repeat: Microsoft has not, is not, will never force you to test latest Insider builds. If you don't like the music, don't go to concert.

Come on geeks. Grown up people volunteering for a beta test program, then complaining and accusing the company when something does not work. You can't be serious!

Wow.. well put. I for one love the idea that we now have an ongoing program that allows us to not only preview but test and provide feedback on new Windows builds. This is the best thing that MS could have done for giving users a way to tell them what we think and provide ideas for future features.

For me I love the idea that I have direct input into what goes into Windows and informing them on bugs I find in the OS.

So.. I'm a very happy member of the insider program, FAST track!!

No problem. I think you pointed out what I was thinking very well. It's amazing that MS has this program in the first place. Given the way that previous versions of Windows have been dumped on users this let's us get more hands on and that is a good thing. For me at least, it makes me feel that I'm a part of the process in developing the OS,, even if my part is very small. It's more than any other OS maker is doing and that's what matters.

Now that we're into more raw code it's really up to each user to decide how much mess they want or are capable of dealing with and in addition how they want to go about using the insider builds. For me the best way is to have a dual boot configuration. But for others the VM world works best for them.
