    See if you can download an AHCI driver from your PCs manufacturer.

    Laptops-and-netbooks :: ThinkPad-Edge-laptops :: ThinkPad-Edge-E440 - Lenovo Support (US) and Software|Drivers and Software&beta=false
    I tried searching the drivers for an AHCI one, the closest one I found was Intel's Rapid Storage Technology Driver and the Chipset driver.

    I installed both and I still have the same issue.

    Edit: Also looks like it is a widespread problem with Samsung Magician and the Anniversary Update (and later of Windows 10 versions...). Take a look here and here and here. Even TenForums has a post about this issue:

    Widespread bug FYI - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/foru....cfm?t=2556634 - see UPDATE paragraph at bottom!

    Just after I updated my Asus laptop from Windows 10 1511 to Windows 10 1607 (1 year anniversary update) a virus was detected by Windows Defender, so I immediately shut down and performed a reformat via Windows-10-install USB stick, as I was going to reformat anyway. I wish I noted down now what it detected because i've had an issue since.

    Samsung Magician v4.9.7 now reports 'AHCI mode disabled/deactivated' and 'unable to detect SATA' (I use a Samsung 850 PRO SSD). After much testing, I found what makes it report this is when in my Asus laptop UEFI BIOS I have 'secure boot' enabled. When secure boot in BIOS is disabled, AHCI mode and SATA detect reports working normally again.

    Screenshots:
    Error - AHCI disabled/deactivated and SATA not detected/EUFI BIOS secure boot enabled - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
    No error - AHCI enabled and SATA detected/UEFI BIOS secure boot disabled - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
    Samsung driver not digitally signed error that began at same time - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

    I've tried many MBR fixes via command line via repair your computer when booting from Windows install USB but it seems after much reading that my UEFI laptop uses something different and I can't modify it?

    I have secure boot enabled whenever the laptop might be online so it would have been enabled when the virus alert popped up, so in theory the boot sector should have been protected?

    So i'm not sure if I might have an infected or invalid boot sector, if the Windows 1607 anniversary update did something, Samsung Magician is misreporting, or something else is causing this.

    Note that my Windows copy is legit/has a legit key stored in BIOS (for laptop) which came with the laptop purchase. It's not recommended nor a solution to simply leave secure boot disabled (eg: reason above) so i'm not sure how to proceed from here...

    Thoughts?

    UPDATE: Ahh, looks like others with Samsung Magician v4.9.7 who have installed the 1-year anniversary update for Windows 10 have also suddenly started getting the same issue. So looks like it's up to Microsoft and/or Samsung to rectify. I'm just very happy that it has turned out to be an issue not at my end. See results at Google:)

    Good thing then I run my insider preview in Hyper-V.
    I see you have a Home version. Is your PC capable of virtualization anyhow? Look at the very bottom of System Information.
    If it is, you could think about getting another key, and installing VMWare Player(the free version) and use that for testing.
    Or just uninstall Magician. I don't use any of the optimization stuff, and only have it installed for firmware updates actually.

    And I don't even have it installed at all!

    Had a recurrence of a problem I hadn't seen for a few releases: The new build seemed to download fine, I told it to restart, it did some stuff before it rebooted, then booted right back into the old build with a notification that 'we were unable to install all your updates', or something like that. After a few minutes, it began downloading the entire thing again. The second try always worked in the past, but this time, same thing. So I mounted the iso and ran setup from there, and it seems to be installing properly now...

    Thanks Cliff. I'll add it to my to-do list.

    Well, finally got it installed (upgrade from Anniversary Update). Sorry that I did - not really working on my rig. The sign-in screen has the background picture strangely dimmed, and all text fields blank white boxes. I just hit return, the cursor was blinking in a blank box - I typed in my password and managed to sign in.

    The Start menu does not work - click on, and nothing. Right-click, and nothing. Sort of limits one's ability to do stuff. Luckily, I have a few things pinned to my taskbar, so I was able to bring up Firefox (from which I am now writing this).

    Both 'display settings' and 'personalize' from a right-click on the desktop give a 'this file does not have a program associated with it...' error. Trying to launch the taskbar settings from a right-click on the taskbar doesn't work.

    I have been in the Insiders Program from day 1, and this is far and away the roughest build I have encountered. Maybe I'll try again later, but this is just unusable, and not really even testable, unless I can get the Start menu going.

    I am very disappointed.

    Try opening an admin command prompt and copy and right click paste this in:

    fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\&fsutil usn deletejournal /d /n c:&Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase&pause

    Let it run through and then restart when it's done.
    Note this will clean out the Windows component store, which means you will NOT be able to uninstall any Windows updates after, so make a system image before if you might be planning on that as another option

    this will also clean up and old WinSxS files which are copies of shared program files, such as DLL's customized for each specific program that needs them.
