yea its not an Insider update as I've just got this on my main PC.
Anyone in the know... know why this couldn't wait until patch Tuesday?
Yes I'd be interested to know that too. Whilst it's good MS wants to update / fix etc the updates and their frequency are pretty relentless. I would prefer a more reliable release schedule. As a non insider I personally don't want updates descending on our home PCs out of nowhere - at least on a Tuesday I know to be on guard for it and can allocate spare time without upsetting the wife. Tonight totally caught me out! The 2nd Tuesday of the month Windows 7 method always worked well, updates once a month keeping everything crossed, the user knew exactly when it was coming and could then forget about the hassle of updates for another 4 or 5 weeks

Suffice it to critical errors. (previously release KB3176934 (14393.82))Anyone in the know... know why this couldn't wait until patch Tuesday?
And problems with RDC. (previously release KB3176938 (14393.103))
They did not want to wait. May be...
Also, practice "patch Tuesday", is gradually disappearing.
I'm downloading it now. Glad I did my maintenance this morning.
This is the same update that was released to the Release Preview Ring last week. It was deemed by MS to be ok to release to the general public. Therefore, all running the AU got the Cumulative Update.
Think of the Release Preview Ring as a mini testing ground for the general release patches and updates. It is NOT Insider of any flavor. It is the general release 14393 on steroids. Things are released to it and if they pass scrutiny out in the field, they go to public.

This one kinda scared me. Nothing worked, it would freeze on almost every thing I wanted to do. After 3 hard reboots, it seems to be "normal" now.
I just got this update and from what I can see there has been NO negatives.
Time will tell I guess? :)

And yes, and not. Probably not. This is the same update that was released to the Release Preview Ring last week.
Compare please (x64, for example):
KB3176938 (build 14393.103) (last weak (24, august) for insiders program)
KB3176938 (build 14393.105) (31, august for insiders and Current Branch)
But by implication, of course you're right.Think of the Release Preview Ring as a mini testing ground for the general release patches and updates. It is NOT Insider of any flavor. It is the general release 14393 on steroids. Things are released to it and if they pass scrutiny out in the field, they go to public.
