So, It is still the same you still have to give up a windows 7 or 8 key? So, those with clean installs will have to use a key from windows 7 or windows 8/8.1 to get it to upgrade to windows 10 RTM. I would of got 10 if I didn't have to give up a key. I know how to triple boot.

Thanks for posting that... Me believes Mr. Aul may be regretting that hasty one-word reply of "yes".
I think I'll keep 8.1 on my Surface pro 3 (for wife's coupon clicking!), let MS have the 8.1 on my new box in exchange for RTM10, and still keep my 7 license if I want to dual-boot for some reason.

I'm assuming if you upgrade an OEM Windows 8.1 (Core) installed on a machine that came preinstalled on the machine (like my Dell laptop) you can revert back to the OEM install as you were able to if you had upgrade copies from Vista-->7 and 7--->8/8.1.

I'll have to keep my Media Center PC's (3 of them) on Windows 7 till it ends in support. I have 2 x 8.1 with Media Center that dual boot with 7 on my 2 main PC's. The 2 PC's I use for playing the odd casual game, ripping CD, DVD and Blu Rays will probably stay on 7 too. Most of my machines have 7 Ultimate. Now Tammy has already made it very clear to leave her 3 machines alone and on 7. That leaves the Toshiba Lappy and the Asus Epcee. 1015. I so far have about six virtual machines of 10 running on 3 of my machines. I suspect the performance improvements would be beneficial on the Laptop and Netbook neither of which run any media centre stuff. I either have to give up my 8.1 with media center or 7 Ultimate on my 2 main machines as triple booting can be done but it is risky. What I should do is decommission the Windows 8.1 and save their keys for the chance I may need them after 2020. I could then install 10 and dual boot with 7 Ultimate and use a couple of keys I have as spares to get the free upgrade to Ten. It all depends on the system they use to get you a Windows 10 key. I don't want to surrender 3 Ultimate keys and then find I can't stand looking at Ten's flat world all day...... Also like many of us here I would like an ISO file so I can do a clean install getting rid of potential issues.

keeping my W7 lappy as is, but on my other where 10TP is only OS, im glad i pulled the key for my W8 OEM, great big thankyou to Superfly

So then what's the whole point of this news? We already heard that we were going to get a free upgrade for the first year within the release of Windows 10 and "yes" you would still need a valid license to upgrade.
I feel like we are chasing our tail on this one. I don't see the hidden jewel in this one.

You don't need to go from Win7/Win8.1 to the RTM. Now you can go from the TP to the RTM with a valid license to get a valid license of WIn10. This is an additional upgrade path that MS is providing..So then what's the whole point of this news? 2 from Win8.1 to Win10
