close any active windows and wait.

One of my laptops seemed to hang for about 20 mins on preparing for installation, 0%. I just left it alone and it eventually finished. It's not old, but it is more of a discount type that we didn't spend much on because it's only used for tasks that don't require much in the way of resources. Code name craptop
