Baaaaa humbug! Funny how you people keep running into these "stranger then science" issues with this particular update when I did 3 desktops and even a 10 laptop and not one issue simply by mounting the iso download with the free app I selected. Haven't even noticed anything different on the main here since the 14386 Insider build was replaced. 10 has been running much better now then seen with the TH2 so far at least.
Did I make any accusations of anyone fabricating things? Not at this end!
The point being is simply put as not having run into any of the problems being mentioned. You might want to look at what does work in the situations where so far you haven't been able to see working results. That's referred to as "problem solving".
And to edify things further there were problems seen here with the MC Tool as well as another 3rd party iso program as for how things went with this particular update. The online update immediately failing, not able to create usb media, and the need to find another 3rd party iso mounting app(Virtual Clonedrive) in order to be able to manually run the upgrade to update 4 separate machines was problem solving seen here lately.
Apologies, the "Funny how you people keep running into these "stranger then science" issues " comment just rubbed me the wrong way I guess. It seemed to me you were dismissing the issues posted, that's all. I could have worded it better and been more polite. Again my apologies.
Thing is, you don't know there is an issue until it happens? I did the upgrade via Windows update, as one would, and I lost my 1 TB Data drive. Others did the same thing and had no issues. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Upgrades done with an ISO were problem free. So were my clean installs. I'm not going to tell everybody to not use Windows update just because one PC hiccupped on me. How is that a "stranger then science" issue?
I did upgrades by mounting the ISO in Windows and running setup.exe with no issues. And booting from bootable thumb drives, again no issues. Clean installs from the same thumb drive had no problems either. A clean install on the same PC that had the drive go MIA during the upgrade was fine also. It only ever happened the once for me. Others had the same issue though so I know it wasn't just me.
I wasn't dismissing anything but trying to understand why these were being run into. The failings seen with MC Tool and UltraISO is another mystery at now not being able to create any usb media. I simply unpacked the RS1 update's iso onto the existing drive or two previously used for 10 Pro 10240 originally and later one of the 4 in 1 project drives.
Out of three desktops two having seen Insider builds and one just lately seeing the 7 Home x64 upgrade to 10 Home x64 take place plus a 10 laptop not one saw the RS1 arrive by way of the WU! Every Insider build on the other hand came in on time without issue with the exception of having the second desktop powered down for a little over a month and now down again for a few weeks.
(AC being stressed to the limits here lately with that now needing replacement)
I only ever use the MCT on occasion to download an ISO. Most times I download my ISO from MSDN. I create my bootable thumb drives via diskpart. When I mount an ISO, I do it natively from Windows. The only issue I had was when doing the upgrade via Windows update. Every other method I used was flawless.
