I ask because I downloaded the x64 ISO yesterday in my Home version laptop and created a bootable USB. I then clean-installed it on my laptop with no problems. Today, a friend asked me to update her desktop PC which is a x64 Pro version. I was thinking that the Home and Pro versions are both included in that single ISO and will just automatically select the correct version once I install it. Is this wrong?

The fast way to tell depends on whether or not you saw the option to choose which edition was installed upon tending to the clean install you saw yesterday. The MC Tool download will be based on what was detected as running on the system at the time compared to any separate download at the MS download page.

The MC Tool will be for either Home or Pro depending on which is detected while the separate download for any general release will cover both. Seeing the option to choose between editions means you received the dual edition iso when going to see a clean install while any upgrade install will be automatic. This is how things should work when booted live from usb or optical.

The Redstone 1 being a major will be covering both Home and Pro editions while the Education and Enterprise see separate updates. You simply have to choose the right flavor or go back and choose the second in the event you have both 32bit and 64bit systems to update as some stuck with the 32bit 10.

Here I replaced the 32bit 7 Home Premium after shaky upgrade to 32bit 10 Home with at first a 32bit Clean install followed afterwards needing a total wipe of OEM stuff off of drive to the 64bit 10 Home before the display on the then 4yr. old laptop failed. Bought a new 10 model with larger screen in January now needing to be updated!

I originally Had Windows 10 Pro version 1511 (OS Build 10586.494)

I downloaded the MCT and created a USB Drive for Windows 10 X64 . I did a clean install and everything seemed to be OK. Then I noticed that I was running Windows 10 1607 Home!

I used a system image to revert back to my Pro version. I've no idea what happened there

I have download and burned a DVD with media creation tool. Should I wait for update or force the upgrade?

Hi mine went in ok from that link without any errors and working ok
Also had it on Windows update but read up on it and decided to go for the link you used

That link did not work for me because my version was slightly earlier. I downloaded the media creation tool Windows 10 which is version 1607. Imaged the hard drive, upgraded and everything is fine.

Thank you Brink, on my PC it downloaded automatically but on the laptop I had to click learn more to download it because it wasn't showing on updates.

Did you select the correct edition as far as 10, 10N, 10 Single Language? I believe the Single Language I already know to be 32bit only was for the Home not Pro edition. You would want the regular 10 or 10N according to what you have on at the present time in order to see the correct update by upgrade path. Also if you performed a clean install rather then upgrade that would explain not seeing the incorrect edition type error message as you wouldn't be able to simply upgrade to Home over Pro or vice versa but be required to see a clean install.

After all said and done, I moved away from the "assistant" to install the W10 update because of the error "not enough memory". Simplified things, d/l the ISO directly onto an 4GB SD card, ran set up and everything is up to date now. No complaints about not enough memory etc. When it was done, it was not activated :-(, ran the activation troubleshooter and it found the previous license and said that your license and the d/l was not matching and offered to update the current build to what the license was for.

It is Windows 10 home 32b which to me, that is what it always was.

Well the Single Language is the 32bit Home edition as verified again by another look while downloading from the page or at least made the effort as the download for some reason was incomplete. But the first download saw the 64bit Home updated on the other desktop recently having seen an upgrade from 7 HP x64 to 10.

The iso saved to disk by the MC Tool will be correct for the machine you are running since that first detects what you have on in order to see the correct iso file downloaded. You simply select either the 32bit or 64bit option when going for the tool itself. You then receive the dual edition iso of the correct type(10, 10N, Single Language) in the flavor(32/64) you selected.

I have version 1511 and now want to upgrade to 1607.
Is there a cumulative update just for that?

I have several desktops to update and want to do it offline.
So i am looking for an update file to download
