8.1 will be supported by Microsoft for many years . The best solution for someone who don't want to lose WMC.

Kodi is real good, being it's developed from A/V enthusiasts, and it has oodles of add-ons and skins.

I'm not disappointed, I figured it was a matter of time. The add-on hadn't been refreshed in a long time. I actually like the Music app. It gives me everything that I wanted out of WMC.

RIP, you had a good life!

A year before the launch of Windows 8, then-Windows boss Steven Sinofsky justified the decision to leave out Media Center by citing economics and low usage. Today, usage of Windows Media Center is "infinitesimal," as measured by Microsoft's automatic telemetry. Most of that usage is to play back DVDs, where other software solutions are readily available.
I wonder if the telemetry is the same one they used for the start button and start menu on Windows 8.LOL

I never used WMC as a PVR as I use a SAGEMCOM RCI88-320 and it has 4 Tuners, 2x Scart, S/PDIF, Ethernet, 2x USB, tvtv-EPG, VoD.
But I use WMC in Windows 7 for music and videos(not DVDs) because I like the UI better. With Windows 8 and now 10, I use KODI because I like the visualizations. Here are a couple of shots:

So you're dumping Windows just because of one program?

Personally I can't get on with kodi, never seems to work properly. Recently I've been using one of the few modern apps that can show tv. But they're not as good as WMC was.

I run KODI (OPENELECT) on my Pi. I like it. I don't watch TV on it though, just play videos and MP3 files.
