They are not removing it from the software you purchased. They are not dropping support of it in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1. It's childish to expect someone to support something that has such a tiny user base, which they have gave very strong signals was on its deathbed for at least 3 or 4 years... They were going to drop support in Windows 8, but kept it around for 8 and 8.1. It was clear that you should be looking for alternatives.

I use a CABLECARD with my TiVo just fine, and it's amazing. I can view my shows on my PC's, on my Tablets (Android and iOS and Windows 8), and I can do remote scheduling, multi-room viewing, and a whole host of features that WMC can't possibly dream of without a lot of extra help.

TiVo. A dedicated device is a lot better in this case.

They've supported this for.. oh.. 15 years or so... They've clearly communicated their wish to kill it off for the last 5... i'd hardly call that "BAMM, abandoned".
The point of WMC was to help eliminate set-top rental fees and other additional fees.
I pay $2 a month for 3 cable cards (i can attach 9 TVs we only have 6). Even with TIVO after the $600 initial cost, $150 for additional units, it will still cost you $15-$20 on top of cable costs.

Why would i want TIVO over a PC with WMC, in addition, we have internet access, run our games, all the PC capabilities. There is a reason I chose WMC over TIVO years ago. It is fine that you like your choice, I simply think WMC is better, except for it being by Microsoft.

At least native DVD / BD support seems to on its ways:

What exactly are they talking about? This again is typical Microsoft, blah, blah, blah, but never tell you what they are talking about. Always another promise, with no meaningful results. If an option is on the way, why in the hell not just put it in to start with?

First, only the top of the line TiVo with 3000 recording hours (3TB hard disk) and 6 channel tuner costs $600. If you buy a 6-channel Cable-card tuner for your WMC it will cost you $300 alone. Throw in the 3TB hard drive, and the cost of the machine, it's far more than the $600 price, especially when you factor in the lack of OS costs.

You can get a 4 channel TiVo with 500GB drive for $149.

But, what makes the TiVo so good is the software, and the remote. That's what makes TiVo users so loyal.

As for the service costs, it's a small price to pay for extremely reliable channel listings, remote scheduling (web, mobile devices, etc..), and the multitude of other features the software provides.

Regardless, my point is that there are alternatives.

Let see. . .XP was a refined Win 2000, Vista was a refined Win Xp, Win 7 was a refined Vista, Win 8 was refined Win 7, Win 8.1 was a refined Win 8, and now. . .whats your point. . .
Well Lee, i do not see it like that.

90% on the board here was nagging over Windows 8 AND Windows 8.1.

It looked like another world war.

That stopped with the newer Windows 10 builds.

And guess what. The latest build reminds you that it is an upgraded more polished version of Windows 8.1

    For the Kodi users,

The new Kodi 15.0 Beta 2 Isengard is out with these fixes:

Improvements in 15.0 beta 2 since the release of beta 1

    • Bump libCEC to 3.3.0 which fixes a variety of problems
    • Reworked the storage provider on Android. This fixes several problems with mounting points for storage.
    • Fix the queuing of music videos
    • Improvement to FF/RW of videos
    • Improvement to picons in livetv
    • Prevention of clipping of rotated text, which happened in certain skins
    • Improved logic to make PVR, audio encoders and audio decoders optional.
    • Audio decoder and PVR add-ons are now disabled by default. When you want to use these you need to enable them manually.
    • Fix launching of add-ons from the add-on information dialog
    • Show progress for add-on repository update

    • Fix of grouping movie sets when navigating in smartplaylists

    • Included newer version of several PVR add-ons
    • Fix incorrect fall-back language after we made them into add-ons
    • Fix 8channel audio conversion on Windows
    • Try to detect supported sample rates on Android
    • Do a complete video database clean-up session to remove leading/trailing spaces and invalid characters

    • Add season and episode labels to PVR section
    • Fix possible font corruption
    • Remove default 250ms audio delay on Android for AMLogic chipsets
    • Fix subtitles showing on top of each other in certain cases

The complete list can be found on our Github beta 2 milestone.
