I sat out the party hats, the noise makers, and the champagne with glasses. My wife looks at me very puzzled and says, "What the heck do you think you are doing?" I replied - "Don't you know? The free upgrade to Windows 10 ends in 20 hours! We need to be ready!"

I wonder if they are going to do the New York style big ball drop in Redmond? Are we all going to count together? 10...9...8...
Well, actually we'll probably all be busier than one-armed paper hangers (my grand dad was one, seriously) trying to answer all the whining about Microsoft "renegging" on their promise that Windows 10 is a free upgrade!

    Hi all,

Just I'd share this: I did a clean install of the latest build on 3 devices among which a WTG USB stick a couple of days ago.
Only one of the is still on the Fast Ring and yet all of them are now up to date with latest Insider Preview updates. I.e , .5
That through simple WU. No trickery involved.

    Conclusion ??

    Cheers,

    Question :

None of the other family members' computers in my house have ever been on an insider account. So what would happen if I upgraded them this weekend with the build 14393 ISO file I captured from my computer?

I would really like to upgrade them at my convenience this weekend instead of letting it come through Windows Update.

I notice the EULA on 14393 is the standard Windows 10 EULA and not an insider EULA.

I have upgraded lots of both physical and virtual machines which never joined Insider program with Insider ISOs I've made, not an issue.

A few last builds have had at least no apparent expiration date but with earlier builds I just had to repeat the ISO upgrade with later builds on those machines before their current build's expiration.

Thanks @Kari ! So has anyone noticed anything in Build 14393 that would indicate that it is an insider build, other than not being available for public, non-insider download yet?

I haven't seen anything, Commander. Other than the fact that Windows Update and Security marks them as "Get Insider Preview Builds" and I'm not sure that would show if you just clean installed it.

Don't know if this is anything, but on my 10586 it's my MS account, on Insider it's some dude named Windows User. And on all Insider builds, this included, auto logon shows the Doughboy pic, not my acct pic. RTM always shows my acct pic.

How is this for timing. My motherboard just died. Can some point me to the post about changing hardware and digital activation as an Insider?

If you were running 14393 and use an MS account, the digital licence should be registered with your MS account.

Not sure about windows user but others have said same, so nothing to worry about I am sure.

Doughboy (or Grumpy Cyclops ) with autologon is a well known bug.
