Windows 10 Anniversary Update reaches Release Preview milestone

    Posted: 29 Jul 2016

In the last step before its official rollout to the public on August 2, Microsoft has begun delivering Windows 10 version 1607 to the Release Preview branch of the Windows Insider program.

The Windows Insider Release Preview branch is getting Windows 10 version 1607 a few days early.

The countdown clock to the public release of Windows 10 version 1607, aka the Anniversary Update, is down to just days.

In preparation for that big reveal on Tuesday, August 2, Microsoft last night began delivering the build a few days early to anyone who had signed up for the Windows Insider program and chose the ultra-cautious Release Preview option instead of the Fast or Slow rings.

On the one test system that I had configured for this branch, the upgrade process started shortly after 6PM Redmond time. The upgrade process itself took about 30 minutes, and the machine in question now shows Version 1607, build 14393.5, on the About screen.

This major Windows 10 upgrade starts its general rollout on August 2.

If you're eager to jump to the front of the line, there's still time to enroll your activated Windows 10 PC in the Insider program. You must be running Windows 10 and be signed in with a Microsoft account...

Thanks for heads up, I have changed settings accordingly, not really interested being on Fast ring. I just want AU.

Anybody know if it gets delivered via Windows Update as 14393.5 directly or do you get 14393.0 first and then a cumulative update to .5?

If the Anniversary Release is exactly the same as build 14393.5 will Insiders still receive the update?

I need the ESD for it.

I was posting the same question at the time yours came through - it would seem those running version 1607 Bld. 14393.5 are running the Anniversary Update already (??)

Looking at my collection of ISOs I just noticed I've got 14393 burnt to a dvd but I'd like a dvd or a usb key with the fully fledged version on it :)

I found the .iso for 14393.5, which they believe is the Anniversary Update -

Visited Microsoft TechNet forums & seen this announcement from today -

    Hello forum users,
I'm pleased to inform you that the Windows 10 Insider Preview forums are now locked and the released forums are now open. Please visit those forums here.
    Enjoy!

Hmmm...more proof that 14393.5 is the Anniversary Update??

My insider version (what I'm using to post this) is at V1607, OS Build 14393.5.
I had assumed this was going to be the Anniversary update.

I doubt it. But MS has already announced that the ISO will be available from their website very quickly (maybe even on the 2nd), so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
