I just noticed that Windows 10 build 14383 comes with a new Quick Assist (Start -> All Apps -> Windows Accessories) desktop app to replace Remote Assistance. It has a better UI.

    Have you tried it?

Thanks for the info, Shawn. Do you know if they can "talk" (as in TeamViewer) while working on a problem?

Teamviewer sees video as well as audio depending on each system's set up while this would simply work by way of the remote desktop functionality likely texting back and forth in text chat box while in progress. That also requires both parties to be signed into MS accounts note! You would be using MS not Teamviewer server based consoles instead.

I have used TeamViewer with a friend and know that I can have both voice and chat. I also tested Remote Assistance in Windows 7, both as "receiver" of help and "giver" of help. At that time, we could chat, if I remember correctly; I know that we didn't have voice, which is why I asked the question of whether voice would be available.

When you have voice, the "receiver" of help is more likely to keep his/her hands off the mouse, because chat can require use of the mouse to get into the "chat box".

Basically, if Quick Assist doesn't allow voice, then I'll stick with TeamViewer.

Afternoon, Simrick. Have you tried it yet? It's here in Build 14385, but doesn't tell a whole lot about itself.

You will both need to be signed into an MS account and be established as contacts first. The Quick Assist is located right above the Remote Desktop Connection item under the Start>Windows Accessories. Once I get to the other pc being worked on I can run a test between that and the main here.

Simrick and I have just tried out Quick Assist. It's OK, but it's no TeamViewer!

We were able to get around by using Skype for Voice and one good thing is that Ink works. No chat, though.

So, if there were Voice and Chat available, it would be at least as good as TeamViewer. When Inking is on, nothing else will work.

All in all, though, a rather successful test.
