They still can change the version to 1608 at the last minute.

They might. I don't think they will, but who knows - they are an inscrutable bunch...

I have a 5000GB SSD in the desktop with 8GB RAM. Runs pretty fast, but one of these days I'll replace it with a newer model.

Lappy has a 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM.

No problem about "implying". Slow is just as bad as old in my opinion, so you got half of it right. The only up side is that once I get an SSD into it, it should run much faster.

    WOW! I am jealous!

EDIT: Can I have your old one?

The problem is that they slow down when they get that big.

I see your point, but there really is nothing to roll back. The public knows nothing about Insider builds and the numbering system. Doubt 1 in a 1000 know they have 10586. All they know is 10. They (public) can't get too confused over something they don't even know. Makes no difference anyway. It was just a conversational thought.....

That is precisely why I don't think MS is going to play games with build numbers. A build number is a build number - a unique identifier - and I don't think they're going to want to mess with that, because the nomenclature is already confusing enough as it is. Besides, as you pointed out, the public neither knows nor cares about build numbers
