Introducing the Windows Insider MVP Program

    Posted: 01 Jul 2016

Last October, we announced a restructuring of the Microsoft MVP Program to focus on Developers and IT Professionals. As part of that restructuring, we mentioned that the consumer MVP award categories would be supported directly by the product teams. Today we are excited to announce the Windows Insider MVP Program – the new home for our MVPs focused on Windows and Devices for consumers. Our Windows and Devices consumer MVPs are super important to us and we have been working these past several months to figure out the right home for them. It was a thoughtful decision to bring these MVPs into the Windows Insider Program, where the future of Windows is being shaped directly by the people who use Windows most. The Windows Insider MVP Program allows us to work more closely with MVPs via more focused, direct interactions with various Windows and Devices product teams.

This is just the beginning of the journey, and I look forward to our ongoing collaboration with the MVPs.

While we are working directly with existing MVPs as they transition into the new program, for our most engaged Insiders, the opportunity to become a Windows Insider MVP will come early in 2017 and will be unveiled this fall. Stay tuned for future announcements.

I got my enrollment e-mail last night. A heads up to MVP's, my MVP ID number has changed. Yours likely has too. Make sure you use your new ID number in your correspondence with Microsoft. New WindowsInsider MVP Award kits will be sent out too. Likely with your new ID card, and a new lapel pin, with the new logo etc. New trophy too I'm guessing?

I'm guessing your going to have to change the forum MVP badge too, Brink. Whenever they release the new ones.

Here's a copy of the email that current MVPs should be receiving:

Your enrollment in the new Windows Insider MVP Program

Congratulations! We are excited to welcome you as a part of our inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs. Thank you for your input that has helped shape the program. We look forward to collaborating with you and all of our Windows Insider MVPs to make the program even better.

To complete your enrollment in the Windows Insider MVP Program:

    1. Simply register as a Windows Insider – if you haven't already. Please register here by July 8.
    2. Send us the Microsoft Account (MSA) email address that you used to register as a Windows Insider. Send your MSA here.

Once you’ve registered, you’ll be eligible for a wide range of benefits. This includes a Windows Insider MVP Award kit (look for another note from us with tracking information) plus:

    • Exclusive invites to conferences/tradeshows, VIP events, & Microsoft Executive meet & greets
    • Program Group Interactions (PGIs) to connect with key product teams
    • Collaborative platform to connect with other MVPs
    • Microsoft Community “modcasts” & agent training
    • Office 365 subscription
    • MSDN subscription
    • An invitation to the 2016 MVP Summit

Check out this recording of our PGI held earlier last month for more information about the program. Also, here are a few other important details:

    • NDA: As we have mentioned earlier, we are inviting all current Windows Experience, Windows Phone, Surface, and Consumer Security MVPs into the new program, and as such, your previously signed NDA will transfer into the new program; it is still applicable and binding under the Windows Insider MVP Program.
    • WI MVP ID: Please note, your unique MVP Identification (ID) is *****. We encourage you to include your MVP ID in all correspondence with the MVP Award Program.

Thanks again for your technical leadership. We look forward to another exciting year ahead.

    Warmest regards,

    Windows Insider MVP team

Why the date of 8 July?

Does this means one will not be able to join the programme after that?

The Windows Insider Program? No you should be able to become an insider after that date.
If your transferring from the old MVP program to the new Insider MVP program you'll likely want to do it ASAP, before that date. In the past you could be an MVP without being an Insider. Now you can't.
If your not a Microsoft MVP, it doesn't apply to you at all. Don't worry about it.
