Haven't you spent this whole thread claiming that the missing win32help function is an indicator that Microsoft is going to go Apps only? Your whole argument, as far as I can see is based on that one fact? All I'm saying is, why its missing is not for the reasons you claim. And has nothing to do with Windows Apps.
Not only, but the WinHelp32 ist the most visible "i don´t care".
As I said before, Help is a most important part of Software like, for example, Compilers where all the Comand Syntax and Switchs and so on are there. There is no other Documentation than that Help.
Without Help this Compilers are unusable. Not more, not less.
To strip off the Help32 is very hard to those Software.
Don´t come again with the PDF story, is useless.
"Security" is also not a excuse. I do not believe that Help32 could be a serious resource for any "attack".
Help files are beeing delivered along with Software and I have never seen that you could download any Help Files. Also, the "call" to the Help Files are hardcoded in Software and they are pointing to a specific File Name and Location in PC. Only if they are missing, and that will not happen, you will be prompted for the location. And in such case I doubt you could point it to a location in the Internet.
Virtually , every piece of Software could be a resource of an attack, even with PowerShell and the like.

I have other issues, for example, why is Networking with a Win32 Software in my Home Network beeing just and simply blocked? With "EnableLUA=1" it is Blocked, with "EnableLUA=0" it is working.
I am not looking for any "fight" here, just I am very disapointed with W10.

Because it's still an elephant even in shoe box. Those are still don't-have-to-use-if-you-don't-want-to APPS but everything can be too small to use like that, browsers for instance, games are same size etc. I have Lumia 640 for instance and need glasses to see most of the stuff although things can be magnified. Going by that logic, there should be no APPs for phones than.
You can manage to put an Elefant in a Shoe Box? And 2 Elefant, can you manage to fit in a Shoe Box too?

"Going by that logic, there should be no APPs for phones", that is pure rethoric, nobody said there should be no APPs for Phones.

Who's going for rethorics now ?
Yes, you can put 2 elephants in a shoe box, depends on size of elephants and size of shoe box !!!
Elephant in this context is powerful application and she box size of the screen and those are not related.

Are you that naive, or just trolling?
By the way, you are safe if you run Windows 10, not if you have enables winhlp32.exe on your system.
Fafhrd, thank you for your explanation.
What you are talking about at the end is about Scripting, Malware and programming. But there are more, "better" and "easy" ways to do Arm than going thru the WinHlp32. From my point of view it is only a remote possibility that could happen, then Help Files are beeing delivered along with its Software and I have never seen that you need or even could download those files from the Internet. On the other hand, the "call" to Help files are hardcode in its Software pointing to Specific File and Location and only in the case they are missing, and that would normally never happen, will be prompted for the File Location.
For me it is unlikely that I will ever be in danger because of WinHelp. I am using winHelp ever since it appeared and I never had any issue or even heard about it.

Totally disagree, I don't see that happening any time soon. IMHO that is.

EDIT: If that's was true why did they discontinue Windows RT? It was a failure.
I suspect that Adalwar is thinking of UWP (Universal Windows Platform).

    Hi there

of course there are apps that make 100% sense on a phone -- almost any type of Hotel, Plane, Train, Concert Gig booking for example --especially if the gig concerned or travel operator issues m-tickets (those with usually a square bar code included in the receipt) --perfect for portable devices and actually USELESS for a fixed desktop unless you print the ticket --rather pointless way if you can get it on the phone.

But if you start talking about projecting stuff to a big screen --nothing wrong in principle with the idea of a "Cray computer in a Matchbox" - you aren't really talking about a True portable device - a Portable device is essentially a Stand alone unit.

    Cheers
